Making a Better Download Repository

Amusingly, the forums now have a "repository.html" link that redirects to "downloads.html",
and a "download.html" link that redirects to "releases.html".

Less of an issue on the forum than on the main site, where the Releases page is less prominent than Downloads.

To fully move the distribution to a subpage of the repo, you’d need to allow one "thing" to have multiple downloads. MODx currently has four:
.zip
.tar.gz
patch .zip
patch .tar.gz

Admittedly, the zip is far and away the most popular download, so perhaps it would be sufficient to just have a link to another page where the other versions could be found.

The way I would do it is to have the .zip version as the main download and the other versions as Extras ... for all intents and purposes, they would then be grouped as a single release and we wouldn’t need anything to be done outside of the Repository.

Who is taking the responsibility for uploading the core distributions? I’ve had a dreaded thought that maybe I should be doing it and haven’t done .... please let me know if that’s the case.

I seem to recall that a "MODx Team" account was created so this could be uploaded. Certainly that will be important to distinguish core distributions from user-contributed Extras (in theory someone could upload an alternative distro that had Ditto in it etc and was preconfigured to be a alligator-wrestling site).

One of the things just discussed in IRC is the need to know what version of PHP a particular resource runs on, I have added this to the to-do list.

I will be looking at pushing out some updates relatively soon - the first one that will roll out is the ability to lock down a resource to be only updateable by a moderator - this will address the above concerns about core distribution releases.

My BBCode RTE needs a lot of refinement before being ready for release, but I am working on it

could there be a search function? I often need a snippet where I do know the name of but would not alway’s know in what catecory it is.
