Important question, as it affects what I write today: Does 0.9.5 make chunks editable? EDIT: Editable in QuickEdit, that is. Also, will it be possible in 0.9.5 to have a QuickEdit-only login that cannot access the Manager?

Editable chunks, that would be nice ! It would avoid creating too many TVs too...

The QuickEdit access to web users would be most definitely a big plus ! Got several support thread about that on the french forums...
I don’t know how difficult it would be to implement though, and considering there won’t be manager and web user’s distinction in the future (correct me if I am wrong), it all depends on the efforts vs benefits ratio (and also, how har is the user management rework : 0.9.x branch or 1.0 ?).

To clarify, I am primarily after a "manager" user who can’t actually see the rest of the manager.
It’s almost there now, there’s the redirect to pages etc, but you can’t actually stop them getting to the manager.

I guess in time that would enable us to add QuickEdit access to web users once the distinction is lifted.
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

Can’t you create a manager user without manager access ?
Would that prevent also from accessing QuickEdit ?

Just on MemberCheck again, I have attached another updated file to this post.

I chatted to Jason last night about getting the Singleton design pattern working on PHP4 and he provided some code to test out with it - however, I just couldn’t get rid of an annoying parse error with the changes.

So, I did a bit of googling and used a different getInstance() function for the Singleton implementation. Also, I realised that the ’output to placeholder’ code was missing so I’ve added that in as well.

I have tested out with multiple instances on a page etc. and it functions correctly. But, I would love it if somebody could sanity check the changes. wink

EDIT: After waiting a while for feedback, I went ahead and uploaded this to the repository: http://www.modxcms.com/MemberCheck-PHP-4-861.html

          Cheers, Garry

            QuickEdit But Not Manager
I don’t really want to drag this thread into discussing this issue at length, as it has been discussed previously with some indication of it being possible in a future release. But in short: If you switch off manager access for a manager user you *can* get the QuickEdit bar to appear, but the user cannot then edit anything because the pop-up edit functions need the manager.

What leads me to hope for a change in 0.9.5 is the fact that in the role manager, there are role checkboxes for "Request manager frames" and "Request manager intro page". However these are grayed out - looking at the code, these always disabled; the "framescheck" setting is not referenced anywhere else. Clearly the intention was to at some point be able to deny access to the manager frameset, but this seems to never have been coded - perhaps because there is a per-user setting of "Manager Interface Access". If the manager is no longer in a frameset, this line no longer has any purpose at all. However it is still an area that is going to change in 0.9.5, hence the question. This can be solved either by a new "View manager" or similar checkbox in the role manager, or an "Allow Manager Functions" per-user checkbox that is distinct from "Manager Interface Access".

I doubt it will make 0.9.5 honestly unless someone makes it work in the very near future. 1.0 however should be able to address this with aplomb.

That’s what I suspected... but there will be plenty of improvement already grin

I know it’s hard to give an estimate but do we have a rough idea when 1.0 will go beta ?
(I know there is a roadmap coming up, but...)

It will be the main focus immediately after the next release which is coming along nicely. Should have the slimstats auto-conf and hopefully Wayfinder wrapped up by the end of the weekend. Then it’s on to bugs and security and other such fun things.

I know that a test build of 1.0 is VERY high on Jason’s list, and from having worked with two live or almost live projects that uses XPDO, all I can say is wow does it make custom applications a breeze.

This is great news Ryan !

Wayfinder will definitely be a blessing, that’s yet another degree of flexibility ! About Slimstat, I guess those of use who use Slimstats for stats will be able to make a smooth transition (is slimstat DB structure kept as such ?).

The more I think about this release, the more I think it’s one of the greatest MODx update !

The new parser alone would have taken some breaths away grin
Conditionnals was one of the few things that I missed coming from Textpattern... I enjoy the new parser very much in this regard (not even mentionning the recursive abilities, this is going to make some gray cells fry ! lol, MODx is a brain intensive application, but in a good way ! ).

As a marketing guy, I think some teasers in various forums might be a good thing, maybe even try to get an article here and there... and sure prepare a marketing brief for the new release... Knowing you, I’d say you already have something in store but if you want me working on it, I am your man !

About 1.0, it’s great that Jason is keeping us up to date on a regular basis about progress, I have no doubt it’s high on the priority list, just get a lot of questions about this of course and right now I am not giving any specifics, just wished to have maybe a very rough answer (like : definitely in 2006, or : rather early 2007).
