I’ve started updating the default MODx manager theme based on some of the work being done by Banzai. The principle is simple: Update the default manager theme to match the look and feel of our site. The result will be a default theme that will greatly help in rebranding MODx and set us further apart from the competition (primarily Eto). Rather than using the original manager theme as the basis for a new one, I thought I’d use Banzai’s as a jumping off point since the layout of his is better for what I’m attempting to do. Lately, I haven’t has as much time to work on this as I would have liked...but aside from that, progress is going pretty good. Here’s a sneak peek at what I’ve been playing with. The screenshots below show a nearly completed login screen and top menus:

Keep in mind that this is not the finished product and it could look a bit different when I’m done. Zi has given me a copy of the Fireworks file he used to build the current MODx site. I’m pretty sure that when I’m finished everyone will like what they see. I’ll keep you posted on my progress in this thread.

Very nice Jeff -- I love it! I encourage you to manage these changes in your SVN branch for this, so we can merge it into trunk as soon as it’s ready.
Ditto, I can only love this one and I most definitely agree this would do a lot for branding

Those teasers are just great, nice work !

Zi, do you have any additional graphics you’re working on that you can send me? Sure would help to keep things in sync with what’s going on with the site.

Bummer...I kinda like the diagonal lines in there. Gives it a bit of texture instead of having just plain, flat colors with gradients. Zi, any alternatives that you’d like to see? Just curious...
In regards to the CSS, there are going to be a few little changes here and there to the core code to allow for a bit more flexibility. Not much...but a few minor ones. The main focus is to just have a more updated theme that is more inline with the look and feel of our website. After that, I’m planning on doing alot more. For starters, I’ll likely try to merge the top two frames together. No sense having them as separate frames really. After that, I’ll probably see if I can rework the underlying code of the layout to get rid of some of the tables and redo the CSS classes themselves so they’ll make more sense. It’s quite a mess right now. My thinking is that if it’s going to be a ways down the road till we get rid of the frames altogether then we can at least clean up the code as it stands now in preparation for that. Lots of ideas spinning in my head for that...but for now, one step at a time.
