Of course. I didn’t mean the whole thing, anyway, just the top menu part. I’m collecting various menu structures, and I like this two-part top menu. I am not that fond of the color scheme, although I recognize its artistic effectiveness. I would also code the underlying HTML and the CSS quite differently.

If you’re just talking about the structure, that’s fine. Just the actual visual part is the "under wraps" preference. Go for it.

However, the probablly odd looking code is definitely there for a reason. You’ll notice that when you get a little errant in your mousing, you don’t loose your drop-downs for 30px or so... pretty slick stuff. The other complexity in the CSS is to make it interoperable with old versions of IE and Opera. It’s been pretty thoroughly tested, to say the least.

I quit using the CSS dropdowns; it drives me nuts to have the menus dropping down every time I move the mouse around! It looks nice in theory, but it turns out to be quite annoying in practice. I prefer to have single-layer horizontal menus, and use secondary or sidebar menus for deeper menu structures. I don’t care for this site’s graphics and colors, but I rather like the general layout. http://tribalcms.com/?id=product_info

This was designed as a mock-up for the manager revisions (not our public-facing marketing/support sites) and the drop-downs are appropriate in this case to save space and allow access to a plethora of functionality from a single page, even at smaller resolutions. I have used similar code for drop-downs and fly-outs on other sites and this is great stuff IMO, following standards and providing excellent degradation. I’d rather deal with dropdowns than constantly scroll around large screens with lots of static menu options, but I agree we might want to avoid these dropdowns on the public web sites we roll out with the new branding.

Sorry, didn’t mean to be critical, just expressing my own personal preferences and opinions! Ditto my remark re the color scheme! I also like broccoli and squash, and detest peanut butter, and have never worn makeup in my life.
