Branding thoughts

Alright, I think I found the name I really like. Please, tell me if you like it at all. Give it a few minutes. But this really conveys to me the feeling of the product without being descriptive. It's catchy too (I think), and is balanced somewhere between techno-geek speek and everyday banter.

Intrasect

All but the .com are available, and the .com was registered in 1998 (expires in June this year), and still has the network solutions' generic coming soon page on it.

Since it's not a real word, I think I'd confuse it a lot with intersect.com or intraspect.com

Good point, though Intraspect isn't bad either, and looks like it's in about the same situation. It's even pointing at dead Vignette name servers. :lol:
[EDIT: nevermind, Vignette acquired Intraspect software in December 2003...probably would have a hell of a time using that name, but the made up word Intrasect could still be good, despite some potential confusion over it not being a real word.]

Here are two other ideas:

MOx - More Extensible

SiteOS - Site Operating System

MOx - More Extensible

I like that one, too. You can say it like `mox` or `moe x`. [NOTE: moe being one of my favorite bands, as well, besides, sounds a little like an antibiotic if you say like `mox`]

So far my top three choices are:

* Intrasect
* Impress
* MOx

there's also "Moxie"

I like Impress or Moxie.

MOx to me conveys nothing at all: I look at it and I'm not even sure how to say it. The capitalization is funky. And it doesn't feel warm and fuzzy. Missouri X?

Intrasect I've ran by a couple of non-geeks and they both wrinkled their noses and asked if I was going to start with the techno babble. Not sure that was a good sign.

In general, I'd advocate things that are real words or sounds like they could be a real word, doesn't have mysterious elements like "X" or "I" or "E" that don't actually have any meaning at all, and that has a nice rhthym when you say it.

With the possible exception of Coca-cola, not a single one of those names have anything to do with what their product is. Yet they stick because they are short, memorable, you don't have to guess as to how to spell/say them, and they have a nice sound when you do say them.

Ok, wait a second; I will completely admit that I am a geek, but the words intersect/intersection/interstate/intrastate and my made up word, Intrasect, which does sound like it could be a word, had nothing to do with geeks or computers at all! You're telling me if you say Intrasect, they think you're geeking out on them. I've heard of technophobia, but this is a word that is based on intersect, which has been in the dictionary since the 1600's.

I still stand by Intrasect.

Damn, if they had only called that TV show Petticoat Intersection instead of Petticoat Junction, there would be so much less resistance. :wink:
