Have you guys made any decisions on branding? Or have any preferences so far?

I like eQuillCMS alight, but I just found this one that sounds promising; I know it's close to being like the mothership, but I think it's unique enough, and maybe even more memorable; what do you guys think...

    Epitomite.com

    It's available.

Just a thought. I'm sure we'd all like to get this part overwith, but I understand the need for being a little tedious in this respect.

Here's some thoughts not meant for general public consumption.

The more I think about it the more I think I want to stear clear of e- or i- names for the product name. I also want to likewise avoid "open", "OS" or "CMS" for the name, too. As such, I really guess I'm just a sucker for what the guys at 37signals are doing: Basecamp, TaDaList, Backpack ... killer names that really say (via analogy or alliteration) what the products do. I'm just goofy that way. wink

At this point, I think I'm more concerned about the name than a ".com" URL.

Some more thoughts for stimulation (nod to Brian Oberkirch for the majority... definitely some brainstorm results, but those could ultimately lead to our product name).

While I am not 100% convinced that we would have any problems even if we did go with eQuill, there is the possibility of Microsoft kindly asking us to change the name later.

(That being said, I still like the name, but I'm biased. )

I like several of the other possible names better than anything Etomite sounding, though: Brainstorm, Rainstorm, Sitestorm, SlicedBread, Buttered Toast.

Oh, wait, those last two are only there because I'm hungry. smiley

anyone else like ZenScape? I'd be perfectly happy to have the .org since the .com is an actual landscaper, with a pretty nice looking site to boot (though needs some image optimization).

My only problem with it is that unlike Brainstorm, Sitestorm, Rainstorm, KittyHawk, or Eggshell, I couldn't remember "Zenscape" the next day.

I love the way it sounds, it just didn't (for me) stick. Of course, that could be because I'm getting old and the stuffing is falling out of my head. smiley

Well, I'm starting to like EggShell. Didn't at first, but the storm stuff seems a little too, well, geeky. I'm also partial to Impress. But I still don't get a sense of the actual product from either of those names. Hmm, this is tough.

Did you read the naming info I linked in the other thread? They make (IMHO) a very good argument that successful names don't convey anything about the product, along with about 60 pages of supporting cases.

I found it very, very interesting.

I agree, a lot of big players in CMS have pretty forgettable names. I remember them because they have strong feature sets. That said, SiteStorm is kind of growing on me.
