Hello, my name is Rick and I was wondering if modX is the right application for my site.
I built the site using Microsoft Expression Web, but I would really like to have more control over the site and certainly want to have an easier time keeping it updated.
Basically, the site identifies jackets seen in films and on television. Each jacket has information associated with it. The same information but different data. For example each page has the name of the film, the year of release, an image of the jacket from the film, the actor, the character, etc.
Since there are now over 400 jackets, I have lost the ability to keep up. Initially, I was entering a new jacket into an access database, then entering the jacket onto the discussion forum, and finally building a page for the jacket in Expression Web. Since the information is the same for each jacket, I would like to be able to simply add the new information to the database and have the pages update. I was given both WordPress and modX as possibilities by a wonderful person from the site who has been tremendously helpful to me.
I was hoping to get opinions, pros and cons, etc. from the people who use the application before I devoted any time to trying to learn yet another application. I assume that this is an open-source application as well? I do not want to open any security issues as I have just recovered from a hacker. The saving grace is that I can just delete the old folders and reload them with Expression Web and the same with the phpBB code.
I am not terribly good at coding and such though, so I am looking for the right application the first time out. Thank you an advance for any help. Oh, the site is here if anyone wants to see what it looks like now, and compare it to what it could look like in the future.

MODx would be an excellent choice for this. It’s a bit more complex than a vanilla blog, so MODx would be a better fit than WordPress.
What you have should be able to be done with nothing more than built-in and included features (resources and Ditto; even add Jot for visitor commenting if you want).
You can log in to my site’s Manager and poke around to see how a fairly simple site is set up. And my site is pretty basic; there are a lot of very easy configurations and customizations that can make it even easier to work with.
Thank you! What do you feel is the best way to learn the basics?
Those links are great! I appreciate the help. As a beginner, should I use Evolution or Revolution, and if Revolution, should I use the standard or advanced. I will start trying this out during the end of this week and I am very excited about it!

As a total MODx newbie, you probably would do as well with Revolution, although it has fewer third-party add-ons yet. But for your purposes I believe it has everything you’ll need, and it will allow a great deal more flexibility in the long run if you want to add more complex features later.
Oh, this not addressed. I am ready to install Revolution, should I use the standard or advanced?

MODx can do anything you want it to in regards to web applications.
Anything you need just ask.
There are some working proof of concept snippets and other Revolution specific information on my site, that may help expose you to some of the thinking and utilization of MODx Revo. View my signature for the links.
Welcome aboard!
