*Laughs* Well it would appear I have been steadily reading into the early morning and trying to explain to the gal my progression with finding a suitable CMS and my joy with modx would not go over too well. So being a complete noobie to the CMS world
here is what I have gathered so far that way when I wake up in 4 or 5 hours depending on the dog I’ll know if I was just delirious and should of went to bed along time ago.
      My original site is Http://www.angrygamers.org
So Far I have gotten this far transferring it into modx format
      http://angrygamers.org/ag_modx/

Some of my concerns are. I am trying to find variables for setting up the time in a 00.00.00 format with the news header under it listing up to 5 which links to the story, multiple posts on the index page now to my understanding I am suppose to use ditto, when doing so I get a no documents found. The documentation link I was able to find searching the forums http://modxcms.com/ditto_documentation.html unforunately is no longer working. So I am really close I just need the variables stated and I think I will have it all crossed over to modx.

You’ll find some info and examples on formatting dates and times in Ditto on Pogwatch.

Official Ditto documentation is available on the Ditto site (link goes to main parameters page)

There are several good tutorials around, including http://codingpad.maryspad.com/2009/03/28/building-a-website-with-modx-for-newbies-part-1-introduction/ (part 7 deals with Ditto) and http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/other/working-with-a-content-management-framework-modx/

For specific Ditto questions, there’s also a dedicated sub-forum.

for ditto-parameters have a look here:
          http://ditto.modxcms.com/files/snippet-ditto-php.html

for date-formatting in ditto you can use
          http://ditto.modxcms.com/files/snippet-ditto-php.html#dateFormat

or you can format your dates with phx for example with something like this:
          [+createdon:date=`%d.%m.%Y`+]

For getting the right documents you need the parent from which to retrieve your news-documents:

          [!Ditto? &parents=`yourparent` &display=`5` &tpl=`yourdittochunk`!]

For &parents you can use also modx-placeholders for example &parents=`[*id*]`....................

            -------------------------------

you can buy me a beer, if you like MIGX

Figured I take some time out and take a break from all my thinking and give an update on my first ever CMS/Modx adventure as well as my gratitude. I going on 28 years of age started web developing as a hobby at the age of 15. I am a very routine do it myself person when it comes to any kind of project. I always enjoyed creating a winamp play list open up photoshop get myself wrapped up with my PC and web design. I just love how easily you can find yourself completely engulfed and lost in it, I can remember in my teen years finally deciding to take a stretch just to see the sun rising. It’s theraputic and I think there are several others that enjoy this ritual. My first "CMS" kind of site I ever tried to use was about 3.5 years ago and it was some kind of blog setup (can’t remember the name of it because of short use). It didn’t last it made it mind numbing, dull, even if you wore a helmet you could have a site, and if you knew what you were doing you found yourself limited. I then after about a year of just personally brainstorming on free time and making notes here and there created a business plan of about 49 pages. Basically my hand book from start to finish of where I wanted to take my site year by year. I knew that since I was making a site more then just the ramblings of a nobody that I needed to try again. After deciding on the layout I wanted to go with I wanted to incorporate a true blue CMS, not some <? php includenews> half-ass news script. My site provider offers automatic install of Joomla, Drupal, e107 and something else. Just the name Joomla offset me, sounded to "bloggy", e107 was the first I installed and just didn’t click (poor resources/community response my original post still has no reply). Drupal was the second I tried, after watching walk through web-videos and reading countless pages of resources I recognized the capabilities Drupal offers. However it’s biggest strength is also the biggest weakness for it. I feel it focused so much on breaking it down to a simplistic medium that as someone who has stuck with websites for a decade. I found myself frustrated feeling like I was learning htlm all over. I then stumbled into modx, by this point I was growing wary of CMS’s frustrations were rising and cigarette smoking was at an all time high. Utilizing the resources just in the responses here I have finally found a CMS I clicked with. When you finally have the whole understanding of the capabilities of snippets, chunks, tv’s.... You really find yourself stepping back and going holy stuff. I felt that this CMS was developed by people that endured the same frustrations that I went too and either way just really was able to grasp the concept and click. Since then I have sat back and now realized how easy addition content and all would be that is allowing me to really strengthen my idea. So I guess this could be my way of saying thank you, not just to the creators but to those that make up the community as well. I’ve never really attempted at posting a well thought out thanks before so if my post comes off as monosyllabic. My apologies!

Welcome to MODX! This is definitely one of the best CMS I have worked with - I have tinkered with various of CMS - my first CMS I worked with was PHPNUke and that was for a gaming clan. And I have found my way over to MODX. You wont find a better bunch! They are always helpful either on the forums or on Twitter! So - I do remember crashing your site in the past glad to see it is going the Modx way! Good luck!
