Yeah, that’s pretty much what I was thinking of as well. I have too many other items on this project to knock out, but I’ll see if a colleague has time to look into this. Look forward to any other ideas that may come up!

I am working on a project that has a recurring type setup and I have been questioning the best way to go about it. Putting dates in an array will only be efficient with small number of recurring dates ranging a short period. You will always need to query all the events in order to calculate the recurring events for a given period (to include the recurring events for today I will need to load the entire event history in order to do the calculations). Using a table for the repeated items is more efficient. You can query only the events for a given period without loading the entire history. Then you need to consider the level of customization you need for the repeated event. For example if as a result of the repeat an event gets placed on a holiday, the editor should be able to shift/edit the dates for only that instance of the repeated event and not all of them...the issue list goes on. Handling repeats can be simple but can also be a nightmare grin

Yeah I agree. My best bet would be to use Google Calendar +simplepie as an RSS reader. Google handles all of the recurring stuff.

We just need a good module to update the Google calendar without having to install Zend.

I was thinking of migrating this to Google Cal later too. Love SimplePie and have some experience using it but haven’t used it within MODx before.

My only hesitations are that I’m not that fond of the pop up details that GCal provides (I’m sure with some digging into their api I can bake something I like better), and the one that you’ve noted -- a need for a portable module that can keep the workflow centralized within MODx admin. I’m setting up event registration through FoxyCart, can’t really imagine the client setting up the event info page in MODx and then going to GCal separately to link back to it, etc.
