I´m a freelance web designer based in spain and have used modx for a number of sites now, some of the more recent projects are listed below and I will try and update this post as I add new stuff. If anyone has any feedback or questions as to how the sites were built I´ll be very happy to hear from you guys. I have my own website but I never really get round to getting it the way I want it, I end up spending so much time on other peoples sites that there´s no time left for my own....I´m sure there´s a lot of web designers out there with the same problem? anyway check it out at vidamedia.
I used some other cms software before, namely wordpress and then joomla and I am so glad I have seen the light........
Coming soon to this list is an online shop with custom built php shopping cart as we never found a free one that did everything we wanted. Its under testing at the moment but its the most complete site I have done in modx.
My plans with modx for the future is to work with integrating more stuff with the database, mainly shopping cart stuff but also play around with the mootools library a bit more, seeing as its alreay pre-installed it makes adding fun stuff to your site really easy.

Here´s a few of my recent projects, hope you enjoy...... (constructive criticism/feedback welcome)

This site is still unders construction and the client is busy trying to get it into 5 languages! I´ve been doing more and more multi language sites and things are going better and better. The first one was really hard, one of the things that has helped the most, seems like a tiny thing but makes a huge difference, was getting wayfinder to go to the top level container and start indexing there, no more need for a different template for each language. This is the wayfinder call I use for multi-language sites: [!Wayfinder? &startId=`[[UltimateParent]]`!] and then I make a container that is unpublished called "EN" for example and put all the pages for english in there and keep going like that. And then there´s a lot of template variables, every single option in the booking form for example is a template variable so the client can rebuild it in all languages, including all the drop down options etc. And then there´s quite a few template variables where the clients just has to input a doc id that tells links where to look for the news folder or stuff like that so I end up with template variable inserted into ditto calls, like this: [!Ditto? &startID=`[*newsID*]` This might be obvious to a lot of you modx freaks but for me it has been a long process of getting the workflow nailed for multi-lang sites but now it feels more or less easy and the clients are always stoked to see they can duplicate their entire site by themselves, something that would normally cost them a fortune. Hopefully this will be live and replacing the old site at www.enjoycadizgolf.com sometime in october 2008.

integrates a property search which uses the same modx database to store property details and there are only 3 extra snippets: 1 for the search, 1 for the results and 1 for the details. Its still under development but I´m delighted to be able to integrate so closely with modx so that I can offer this to estate agents and allow them to keep all aspects updated themselves. This is a template (complete with property search, design and a few fancy features like the mootools slide out contact form - click above the header image) that I will be selling so if anyone needs a property website with modx send me a message and I´m sure we can sort something out.

I made heavy use of the excellent smoothgallery (an embed option of maxigallery) to create the main feature of each page, there is an online catalogue completely editable by the client who can add new categories, new sections to categories and new items to sections. A few cool features like the category menu only showing categories that your not browsing and the same with items, all other items in the same section get linked to when you reach an item page etc etc. The blogging with tags worked out great as well so that the client can assign news items to a section so that the news item will come out on the news page but also in the sidebar of the section its been linked to. For the client all they have to do is tick a box, also integrated a calendar app which is very simple to use and again just click a few buttons at the end of editing a news item and done.

This is a site I did for free to help out some friends who were organizing a windsurf competition but I wanted to include it here as an example of something that you can knock out in literally a few hours using modx, in fact showing my friends how to use everything took longer than setting up the site..... which got me thinking, I might do some tutorials on how to edit your site in modx for complete beginners (purely for the clients - not how to build the site) and use screen capture, so like a step by step video guide of how to edit, create docs, insert links etc. Does anyone know if this has already been done before I go too far?

      Hi dangw..

Love your sites, love your enthusiasm!  grin

I think this is always welcome. I know there are a couple of videos on youtube but those are mainly for installing modx.

I always try to get at least three different tutorials or articles from three different authors on any subject I’m studying. That way what one author forgot, presumed everybody knew, or isn’t clear on, one of the others will cover in a way I can understand. So please, the more howtos and basic tutorials out there, as well as in different languages, the better cool

Beautiful sites. I wish I could say the same, although I have some sites almost done in MODx Revolution that I’ll convert once the beta is out.

How is the rotating photo montage at exploratarifa done?

BTW, a couple of comments on that site:

Is the footer really supposed to just say "footer" ??
When you enlarge an image in the top row, there’s no way to get to images in the bottom row without shrinking it again and vice versa (though not a big deal).

            Thanks for the feedback guys.

            - Bob the fancy image thing on the explora site is by Airtight Interactive http://www.airtightinteractive.com/viewers/ and is called "tilt viewer", I don´t normally go for so much flash on a site but it´s what the client wanted.
-No it shouldn´t say footer but I find this is the problem when the client has too much input on a project....... still waiting for them to send me the text for footer, send me the images for the flash rollovers, update the catalogue etc etc. I have noticed that there are some major drawbacks to having client input on a site! One of the first sites I did with modx the clients went completely overboard with their new found photoshop/modx skills that now I never admit to potential clients that I designed it and am thinking of taking it off my portfolio!
-The thing of having to zoom out again is a bit annoying but its the only way we managed to do it and still have the enlarged photos come out big on the screen, altho to be honest all flash gimmicks are done by someone else.
ps. Your guides were really helpful when I was starting out with modx, thanks for the great work!

Scottwell, glad to hear you think the guide is a  good idea, it would be a great help to me because then my clients have something to refer to and I will get less emails/phone calls saying..."How do you move a document again? I now you explained already but........"

Kongondo, thanks for the positive feedback!

                    Hi Sharkbait and Lollie
I´m afraid there´s not a lot of "modx" about the search, except for the fact that it is a snippet, so you can then call it in any document or in the template which makes it quite handy but basically its all done in PHP and SQL queries. We have an extra table in the modx database "property details" and the property search snippet queries the database. We then have a snippet for displaying the search results, and then another snippet for displaying the detailed view of a property. The search will soon have a js switcher between sales and rentals and some other features that I figured would be pretty complicated with TV explorer (..but maybe thats because I don´t know enough about the capabilities of TVE). Sorry bout that, probably a dissapointing answer!
