Boomernet, online since 1995, has been ported to MODx from PostNuke. Along with changing content management systems, we also moved the site to a new server and updated over 100 pages of content to modern coding standards.
This is the 4th version of the site in the past 13 years and everything now validates to XHTML 1.1, with the exception of imported items such as CareerBulder forms and occasional headlines in Google RSS feeds, which are not coded to that standard.
The MODx install was a breeze, template coding was simple, and even fine-tuning some added snippets wasn’t too bad -- thanks again to all who answered my forum posts!
The only really tedious part was in upgrading the legacy code in the articles, including things like:
. Eliminating old tables used strictly for layout purposes
. Making sure all tags were paired or individually closed, as needed
. Transforming old tags from upper case to lower
. Converting "&" to "&" where appropriate
. Modifying Shockwave Flash objects so they would validate, too
Anyhow, thanks to all the folks who’ve made MODx what is is today -- and now I look forward to MODx Revolution!

Very nice case study Terry. I’m going to get in touch for a conversation/interview about this project.
I’d be snarky and say who cares about IE6 but your audience is boomers and many are still using IE6 so I’d look at that as posted.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi guys, thanks for the comments.
Site appears to work fine in well-behaved browsers (Firefox, Safari, Opera, even IE7), but actually had 3 bugs in IE6 -- now I remember why I stopped using that browser a few years ago!
Anyhow, the placement of the header image was off a bit in IE6 until I added "overflow: hidden" to the CSS.
Likewise, the links at the bottom of the page were truncated in IE6 until I added "margin: 0" and "padding: 0" to the list item CSS entry -- I guess IE6 adds its own info unless you tell it otherwise.
That leaves the invisible dropline menu at the top of the page. I wanted to experiment with something new here, and it works fine in all but IE6. Apparently, there’s some "display: block" bug in IE6 that I can’t quite work around. Oh well, at least my visitors with IE6 can still click on the top line links and drill down into the site that way. I can live with that.
Thanks again for taking a look at the site and for the feedback.

Hi tchochran ... what :hover element do you have triggering the drop-down menu behavior? If it’s on anything but a link (A), then it won’t work in any IE earlier than 7. Easiest way to get that to work is to use csshover2.htc, which coincidentally is part of the demo content for modx.

Hi Ryan, it’s just an "a:hover" -- which works fine for the background image and text color swaps on the top line -- but then seems to stumble on the "display: block" setting for the "li a" in the dropline (which is triggered by an "onmouseover" event).
Where can I locate the MODx demo content for csshover2.htc?

It should be in your assets/js folder.
