I’ve managed to launch 2 new MODx sites within a week!
Highland Fling
An annual one-day web standards and web development conference held in Scotland http://thehighlandfling.com
FreeAgent Central
An online money management and accounting application for freelancers, contractors and consultants. The app is built in Rails but the site if fully MODx. A perfect mix! http://www.freeagentcentral.com
Looks great! Well done! I have one question, its regarding a search box on your other site (http://www.freeagentcentral.com/), I’ve noticed in default ModX site, once you click into the search box,
the default text vanish, and once you click somewhere on the page it doesn’t come back again,it stays empty,
but text in your search box comes back, how do you make text to come back again? I guess its a simple answer,
and thought to ask you before I google for it ;-)
How much of it is MODx? I mean are you just getting html and pasting into the content? Or are using Ditto and other snippets?
I just got finished doing a conference site, with tickets. I built using FoxyCart, but that EventWax system looks like a perfect fit.
However FoxyCart is a great deal for $15 a month and I get orders sent back to MODx via xml that lets me handle the ticket printing.
DropboxUploader -- Upload files to a Dropbox account. DIG -- Dynamic Image Generator gus -- Google URL Shortener makeQR -- Uses google chart api to make QR codes. MODxTweeter -- Update your twitter status on publish.
I can’t say how this site did it. But in general you can accomplish this by adding a onblur command to fill it in again after the onfocus command in the AjaxSearch form. You will need to edit the snippet’s tpl. Maybe ask for this to be added to future releases in the AjaxSearch sub forum.
With regards to the search box in FreeAgent, this is achieved using a bit of Javascript. I can’t remember where I found the original script but this seems to do the trick too:
It’s a slightly more accessible method than the default AjaxSearch behaviour.
For the conference site, pretty much the entire thing is handled with Ditto. Each speaker has their own individual page, with custom TVs for thumbnail pic, talk times (in microformats) etc.
Ditto then builds the homepage and sessions pages automatically. I can’t tell you how much MODx rules in this respect. Set some stuff up in advance and the site will practically build itself
Regarding AjaxSearch, I take the suggestion. And I will see how I could use it when I will improve the templating of the form. Thanks for this feedback.
As I don’t follow all the posts, do not hesitate to post any suggestion to improve AjaxSearch on the support/comments ajaxSearch post
