  • Well, I guess that means I shouldn’t mention the green chile (only chiles from Hatch, New Mexico for me; they are the best) chicken enchilada casserole I made last night (and finished tonight for dinner). Or the refried black beans either. wink
    • Refried black beans are good, and the garbanzo "hummus" that is standard here is also good, but still you can’t match the flavor of refried pinto beans (or just plain ol’ beans and tortillas). My mother-in-law’s aunt used to boil a whole pig’s head, then use the broth and the meat to make her own tamales. Incredible. They would sit for an hour discussing a batch of chili powder. When I get my little pocket garden set up, hopefully by next spring, I’m going to grow some mild Mexican chilis.

      • Piker, you kind of remind me of "Hork", one of the programmers for the Imagination Network when I was working for them. I was in Florida and he was in their location in California. He also loved chocolate, his response to any requests for features was "Send chocolate". I was the "Dean" of their online "University", and as such had a very dignified Victorian-style avatar. He used to run a macro that he wrote to strip the clothing from my avatar. (it only showed from the shoulders up!) So one day I got a box of chocolate dog treats, carefully opened it from the bottom, filled it with real chocolates and glued the bottom back together. They told me that he was really mad, and it sat on his desk for several days before somebody convinced him to open it. That was fun!

leave it to one conversation about Texas to get everybody hungry, jealous and thirsty. I don’t think I’ve EVER heard someone compare hummus to negrotes. I’m sorry to hear that. I guess I could share. So here...
