There will be a MODx developer training and certification course/test coming in the future.

Interesting! Will be required a basic PHP/MySQL knowledge to apply?

That’s cool. My two cents ideas for this:

        - Please allow self-learners to certify without following seminar.

        - Offer several levels of certification so that people can start with basic certifications, like MODx basic concepts and MODx maintenance and then upgrade their certification level with snippet development, core development, internationalization, a.s.o.

        - Create several MODx certification labels corresponding to the misc levels, that only certified developers can use on their websites.

Personally, I did several skill tests on Elance.com. I’m by far not convinced by such plateforms as they are worker-unfriendly (time lost and excessive competition on price where Americans/Europeans cannot compete).
But their skilled tests are very well done and useful to test your self-learning. Someone who isn’t fluent with a technology can simply not succeed the skill test because the time will be lacking to him to answer all questions. You could maybe try one of their tests and get ideas for MODx certifications.

I agree with Jul - some form of certification is a great idea. Even an outline of what you should know at different levels of competency would be useful,

Skills testing is also a good idea. I just work with the Document Parser functions, but there are probably things in the core code I could be using. A skills test would at least point me in the right direction.
