Pings and pingbacks are about it as far as core functionality the other big one is the use of XML-RPC for connection from external apps for use with pingbacks, desktop editors and browser widgets. Almost everything else can be done using MODx with Ditto, Jot and Reflect. WP also allows for you to use a private email address to send posts to WP and it also has author moderation (this can be done sort of in MODx). It no longer uses TinyMCE as they have built their own tag replacement system for their content editor.

The other place WP rules is in the sheer number of plugins (addons) available for every conceivable purpose from integration with galleries to simple ecommerce and to adsense.

Much of this can be don in MODx but it is not aimed at the end user. (I don’t know how in the world the WP templates could be since they are one complex series of PHP function after another interspersed awfully with HTML.

Susan has a proof of concept email-to-post integration done. Scotty D’s command-control app was a Mac app that posted to a MODx install from the desktop, though I think that type of functionality is much better served in the next release. Pings/pingbacks seems to be the big compelling factor on the lacking front, and glad to hear you’re working on addressing some of that.

As far as the event not triggering when auto-publishing happens, to me that seems more of a bug than anything. It should.

Ryan, I had been working on a MODxPress project to bridge the gap between MODx and WP a while back. Maybe I will revisit it as I rebuild my company website. I have some projects closing and I will be getting back to it soon.

I’ll get back to you about the event triggers but I am sure that I read a post from OpenGeek somewhere where he addressed this and noted that it wouldn’t work as the parser just checks to see if the document’s pubdates are current and doesn’t actually access the onDocPublished. I haven’t been into the core lately or have actually tested it recently so who knows. I’ll maybe just test some other kind of event around it before I go back to adding pings and a pingbacks.

In addition, If I can get it working maybe I will also look at a WP content/posts migration script although that may be a bit more difficult for me.

        Cheers,

        Jay
