one more question about this if anyone can help...

When i create a new page (resource) the footer images are not automatically being applied and instead the page just displays @DOCUMENT 58 where the images should be.
Is there anything i can do so that the footer images are applied to all new pages created?

    Thanks again

This is in the final page output in the front-end? Or what is displayed in the TV form field when editing the resource?

        Hi Susan,

The ’@DOCUMENT 58’ is displayed where the images should be...in the tv content area.
So my set up is this:

Template Variable (the following are the fields filled in, all other fields are empty):
        name: [*footer-images*]
        caption: footer-images
        input type: RichText
        default value: @DOCUMENT 58
        Template access: all cheked

I have a page (id 58) called Footer Images which uses a template (blank). Images can be placed here in a list.

When i created a new page the images did not appear in the TV and instead it just read ’@DOCUMENT 58’.

        Does that make sense?

        Thanks

Well, that is the default value. That is what should show in any unedited TV field. That means that whatever is in the content of resource #58 is what will be used to generate the final page to be displayed on the front-end.

            oh ok.
so the way i have it set up there is no way to have new pages automatically adopt the footer-images?
Is there another way around this?

            Thanks for your help

They ARE adopting the footer images. The actual images are in resource #58, correct? So every resource that says @DOCUMENT 58 will use those images.

You are confusing the TV VALUE with the TV OUTPUT. Its value is what will show in the TV field when editing documents. Its output is what will show on the actual generated page on the front-end.

                Hi,

Yes the images are in document 58.
Unfortunately the images are not displaying. I have tried creating top level pages and child pages with the same results...no images, just text displaying ’@DOCUMENT 58’ so i have to copy and paste the images into the TV area on the new pages.
Is there anything else you can suggest?

                Thanks again

That document #58 must be published.

Also the fact that the TV type is Rich Text may have something to do with it. Try it with just a text type.

Do you have a link to the site so I can see the page with @DOCUMENT 58 actually displayed in the footer?

Thank you...changing the input-type to ’text’ does that job.
That is so good...thanks for all your help
                    grin

You only want a "rich text" input type if editors are going to be inserting formatted content. Otherwise, there’s a good chance that the RTE will "helpfully" completely trash your input.
