    (3) Most importantly in my case is mounting. I can already have users only work with the documents they have rights too, but I don’t want them messing with other people’s images and files. Accordingly, I need users to be able to upload only to their specific section of assets or in the alternative, have ModX keep record of what assets belong to who and each user can only have access to those files.

You can contain users to their own folders, here is how:

    • Create a folder for the user (for example: assets/images/username/)
    • Go into Manager Users and open the associated profile.
    • Under the user tab, set the [tt]File Manager Path[/tt] to correspond to the folder you created in step 1.
    • Save.

Now when the user opens the file manager, they will be taken to their directory and will not be able to back out of it.

      >> Let me state one more time though, you guys rock and are doing an awesome job.

I want to second that and I don’t think anyone here is implying there should be any rushing of the development. I think everyone here gets just that bit more excited when you read through the next development roadmap and forgets the ’OS’ grounding this project has!! The reality is you guys/girls have set such a high standard backed by a great system it’s inevitable that you going to inspire people with what can be achieved next.

Possibly what’s happened is people have seen previous releases up to .95 rolled out quite quickly, so I think peoples lack of understanding just how much will change in .97 needs further reassuring. I guess you could say for most people they don’t want to think to much outside of the MODx box yet, before all those important core foundations have been rolled out.

But more importantly I think people just get worried when they commit to an OS project and then find the releases get later and later, roadmaps don’t get followed and what was a great project dries up. Hence the urgency to badger for release dates to make sure something is still going on.

Now I’m ranting but this reminds of a previous thread about marketing funds for MODx’s development. I guess really everyone should put there donations where there mouth is..

Can’t believe I didn’t notice Whitefan’s response until today, because it is EXACTLY what I need; however, I am unable to get it to work.

        1. I created a sub-directory: assets/images/users/johnsmith
        2. I went to the Manage Users tab and opened up John Smith’s profile. I went to File Manager Path and inserted assets/images/users/johnsmith/ (tried both with and without trailing slash).
        3. I saved the profile.

When I log on to johnsmith’s account and edit a page, and I click on the "Add Picture" icon of the TinyMCE editor, I am presented with the file manager using assets/images/ as the root. Am I missing something? Again, I am using version 0.9.6

I have always used the file manager for this, I don’t think it works for the TinyMCE. TinyMCE might have its own setting though. I will take a look around tonight.

OK, I keep learning all the time here ... not using TinyMCE, how would a user access the File Manager? Example: let’s say they want to include an image stored in their directory in the page they are editing. How do they do that?

I recommend checking the last 2 fields of the user tab:

              Resource path:
              Resource URL:

Looks to me like these might effect the resource browser.

If they don’t work, I have always just used the file manager then manually entered the image paths which is not the most user friendly but also not horribly difficult. There is probably a better way to refine all this but this is as close as I have ever bothered to take it.
