I absolutely LOVE ModX and have used ModX in the development of several sites.
There are three functions that ModX does not have that is holding me back from using ModX on a larger corporate site I am working on and these features are important in this case because of many outside people having access to various portions of the site (picture a small scale about.com).
(1) Rollback. I would like to be able to view what changes have been made to a page or pages and be able to click a button to undo changes.
(2) Versioning. Would be nice to be able to work on different versions of the same page and toggle between them at set times.
(3) Most importantly in my case is mounting. I can already have users only work with the documents they have rights too, but I don’t want them messing with other people’s images and files. Accordingly, I need users to be able to upload only to their specific section of assets or in the alternative, have ModX keep record of what assets belong to who and each user can only have access to those files.
Offer those three functions and I think ModX is ready for the large enterprises out there!

@lee: First, thanks for the kind words about MODx. Second, we agree with you regarding preparing MODx for larger enterprises, and all three of these features are in the works for the core in our 1.0 release; however, with some work, all three could also be approximated with add-ons in the current releases for more immediate needs.
I am sooooo excited for version 1.0 to come out ... you said it will be released tomorrow, right? (just kidding)
With the flexibility of ModX, yes, I can write scripts to accomplish everything I want to do; however, I don’t want to start writing a lot of exterior code that will eventually be written into the base code. Then you run into incompatabilities and just plain ole sloppy code. So I’m holding out for 1.0 and will use Typo3 for the project I am working on, but I like the ease of ModX MUCH better!!
Keep up the good work. You guys rock!
By the way, and not pinning you down to any exact dates at all ... is there a "feel" for when 1.0 will be released? Year 2008, 2009 ... 2050?
So .97 is going to be a summer release. That is if your dividing the year into fours seasons..
I though v1 was going for release sooner the 2008, but at least where not waiting forever like phpbb did with v3.
I like the suggestions for document rollback, versioning and having more control over users access to documents and assets.
I appreciate the reluctance to discuss specific release dates, but may I just ask whether the posts above imply final release dates or Alpha or Beta productions?
Looking forward to testing out 0.9.7 and was hoping a version would follow hot on the heels of 0.9.6.
Cheers,
DM

They’ll be what they’ll be and being that it’s open source software and no funding specifically for development, and that it’s a massive project, take it for what it is. Your guess is as good as ours, though there’s a tremendous amount of code and planning that’s completed.

Wow, that last remark was pretty harsh, especially from a higher-ranking poster. I don’t think anyone that posted made any implication that we were rushing the process or disappointed. ModX is an awesome framework and I wish I had more time available to help with the project.
At least in my case, as mentioned earlier, I don’t want to spend time writing snippets that may conflict later on. Accordingly it is nice to have a rough time frame in mind as I work on various projects.
Let me state one more time though, you guys rock and are doing an awesome job.

I really don’t see how that was harsh? In fact, I think it’s and incredibly open and honest statement of where we stand. There was no subtext involved or implied.
My point was that we’ve made tons of predictions previously and they’re wrong 99% of the time. We’re trying our best, I promise, but I’m not about to indicate any timeframe ... it’s just a reality of where we are. Sorry if it came across as harsh, but I don’t quite have the dollars laying around to pay folks to dedicate their time 100% to the future code base.
