I really like the built in "Automatically generate alias" option that comes with MODx.
In some cases, however, I’d like to leave the feature Enabled, but use an
underscore ( _ ) instead of the
hyphen ( - ).
this-alias-was-created-automatically
would be:
this_alias_was_created_automatically
Others may want something completely different than underscore...
In short: I wonder how easy it would be to allow a couple of Delimiter Options for
automatically generated aliases...
Agreed, this would be a great thing to have.
I confess I always install the
CustomAlias plugin, if anything else because it properly generate aliases from accented characters (french has a lot of them) but also because you can edit the array of character replacement (and change - to _ if you want

).
I really think this plugin, and the SEO strict plugin should be merged and added to MODx pure and simple, those features should be built in IMHO... or distributed with it. I know we try to avoid bloating MODx distro and that’s good, but this is a key feature, especially since we advertise being a "SEO" CMS

I sure can understand the logic, and of course I don’t doubt MODx capabilities... this being said, I’ll make sure to provide instructions and support to french users to use the CustomAlias plugin to have accented words correctly taken into account for alias generation. This is one issue often reported by french people testing MODx is why I am talking about it.

Now that bit honestly should be integrated at the core level indeed ... not even requiring a plugin.

And now it is a part of 096 ... and David you’ll be pleased to know I used some of the same stuff that the Textpattern folks did with their i18n to ASCII stuff.
If I understand correctly, are you saying that as of 0.9.6 stable foreign characters are converted as part of 096 core?
