ModX already has a Search function.

How about extending that to a Search&Replace feature? It would make things easier when you accidentally made a mistake on more than one page, and want to fix it w/out editing each and every page (like bad HTML or something).

One weapon of choice (if you know SQL) is to edit the database directly! I love performing mass updates (search/replace) using solely MySQL and minimal filter logic.

However, I do see your point. How cool it would be to search and replace (via the GUI) and also have some options to search multiple tables at a time (things like Chunks, Snippets, TVs, and primary Content areas (titles, introtext, content, etc) )
