Handling multilingual content (an official or "core" solution).

Joomla has a good implementation of it.

It is always a good idea to have users stating clearly what are their expectations and priorities grin

      Glad you asked ... wink

      1. Easy-to-add Frontend editing for web users.

Many of us don’t want our web users to see the back end but they need to edit documents. If I understand things correctly, a web user who creates a new document and spots a typo just as it is saved has to go to http://site/manager and log on as a manager to fix it.

      2. Guidelines for snippet development.

After browsing through the existing snippets, they seem to have been created in very different formats and have their code in different places. They also take different approaches to setting default values of variables. I’m not suggesting hard and fast rules, but if there was a suggested structure, I think most people would use it. That would make life a lot easier for people who wanted to develop new snippets, modify existing snippets, find bugs in existing ones, or just figure out how they work.

      For example:

How (and where) to set the default values of your variables.
The standard format for the comment section.
Where to put your snippet.inc.php file.

I’d suggest the Wayfinder snippet as a model, BTW, although it could use a complete list of variables in the comment section and a few more usage examples.

        - versioning of content with rollbacks, preview staging etc.
        - better developer documentation
        - manage multiple MODx-sites/portals from within one central CMS
        - good MVC-framework inside MODx

Regarding c), have you tried the Doc Manager module?

Regarding b), have you tried the latest RC3 build. Should be in there.

Regarding a), have you filed a bug in the bugtracker?

To make ModX appeal to the more corporate users, the following would be great:
            1) Document versioning, checkout and rollback facilities.
            2) Ability to take an existing published document, work on it without publishing the updates, then have someone else review and publish the updates. This requires ModX to keep track of 2 versions of each document (live and in-progress).

Also, I appreciate that ModX is treading a fine line between being developer friendly and also useable by non-technical people, but I think there are a few things that could be done to make snippet installation simpler without compromising the power & flexibility. For example the manager could have a built in link to the repository with some sort of 1 button snippet installation. Also, when looking at a snippet an ability to list all the places in the website where the snippet is referred to would be useful, so old redundant snippets can be cleared out.

Finally, what about the ability to remove (or at least hide) fields from certain document types to make the data entry simpler?

              re: RC3
I’d rather wait for the final release, at least for production/live sites. But it’s good to know it’ll be there smiley

I’ve tried moving multiple documents at once with the doc manager module in 0.9.6 and can’t figure out how. Where is this feature available?

                Thanks

Ability to cope with more than 5000 documents is definitely number 1.

I’ve hacked the core to get this done by not saving meta data in the siteCache file and loading only required document data via mySQL queries:

[need: root, roots children, roots grandchildren, current document, current document’s children, current document’s grandchildren, current document siblings, all of current document’s parents]

This is MUCH faster for a site with 180,000 documents.

Hope the core will be modified by the team.

Would you mind (if not already done) sharing your hack with the core team smiley ?

Maybe they can fit it into the totally new caching mechanism of 0.9.7, who knows ?
