Good! Having the greatest car with all the features you could ever want isn’t worth much if it doesn’t run.

It is easy to get caught up in all the excitement and the pressure that will only grow as more and more people jump on board. While all that is great, I couldn’t be happier to know that a strong emphasis is being placed on getting the foundation strong. Sure, it may mean that some of the other stuff has to wait, but it will only benefit everyone better later building on a strong foundation than trying to tiptoe around a weak, unreliable one, hoping you dont break something.

Only been exposed to MODx for about 4 days, but already impressed and excited. So much so that I more or less scraped a complete site developed in Drupal (which was my first real exposure to CMS and even that has only been about 2 months worth) and switched everything over to MODx, while learning my way around. Okay, it’s a side project of my own and no clients will be harmed if all goes awry, but still a bit crazy.

But sometimes you just have to trust your gut... and as I said, sometimes you have to make bold moves!

True, but what is ModX? It’s a Content Management System / Framework. CRMs and Communities are separate issues while blogs are the killer app for internet content. ModX cannot be everything to everybody. I consider CRM systems and Communities to be something that bridge plugins are more suited.

I would hope to continue thinking of Modx as a development framework.. and that framework should be able to accommodate all possible systems. CRM,Blog, community etc..

This said.. its the user management aspect that always seems to really separate the solutions out there.

in our experience blogging is mainly interesting for individuals, not for commercial clients. They mainly want a corporate website with some additional custom functionality. Imho a much more interesting "killer app" to get MODx in the attention of professional developers/agencies would be some kind of multi-language portal-site and/or a community-website (maybe that’s what you mean with blogging app?) where lots of users can subscribe and find eachother on mutual relations and post messages to eachother (f.e. hyves is a huge success over here in the Netherlands).

        cheers, Olaf

This thread is a bit old, but seeing the mentions to Basecamp, thought I’d relay this info in case it was new and of interest.

disclaimer.... I haven’t actually used it yet, but looks promising.

          http://www.activecollab.com/

Consider this an opensource "project management and collaboration tool" similar to Basecamp.

rcing it would be to have your clients interacting with you within a project management system that is part of your MODx based website!

we’re using www.stuffedguys.com excellent FactoryNova, it’s not OS, but PHP mySQL based, so you install it on your own server and modify as needed...

Thanks for the link, olafmol, I’ll check this out... but I’ll probably stick with ActiveCollab even when it’ll have a dual model I am ready to pay for the commercial version. Unless Joyent Connector has french language at least !
