There’s an alpaca farm about a 45 minute walk from where I live. Last time I was there, the place was run-down and filthy and the yarn was almost useless due to the old, poorly-maintained equipment, and very expensive. Maybe they’ve cleaned it up since then.

I vaguely remember you providing some background on your coding/computer experience and saying something along the lines that you only started late in life and that "if a grandmother could do it anyone could" or words to that effect. But you are only now turning 60?

60 is the new 40!

My firstborn was (still is) an idiot - shacked up at 17, married and a father at 19, in prison and divorced at 21, married and divorced twice since then, in prison again (still is, a guest of the great state of Texas this time), with five kids spread over several states. Soap opera producers would be ashamed to portray his life. That’s the main reason I moved halfway around the globe when the chance came up. They don’t have colonies on the moon, or better yet Mars.

Computers are wonderful. They do exactly what you tell them to do. The trick is to really understand what it was you told it to do

I’ve never been to Israel, although it’s definitely on my bucket list.

I hear there’s no shortage of rocks in the Holy Land. Mail me one, won’t you?

The geology is very interesting here. Especially where I live, on the edge of a 40-mile-long rift crater in the middle of the Negev desert, there are distinct layers. In some places there’s layers of marble, in others where it didn’t get smashed enough it’s layers of chalk. Near the top, you get a lot of beds of flint nodules and compressed mud that looks like a dried-up lakebed got fossilized; very hard on the shoes. The fossils are mostly various types of marine shells that look like lumps of mud. On the bottom there are black patches and hills where you can find slabs of black slate, compressed volcanic ash, with ferns and other swamp vegetation fossilized into the slabs. There are cliffs full of ammonite fossils. I grew up in the deserts of California and Nevada; these are a lot older and feel quite different.

Eeeesh, I miss the Holy Land! My wife and I left almost a month ago, after getting to spend 5 months in Jerusalem. Hopefully we’ll be back by the new year.

Susan, you are an inspiration - I came into web designing at the juvenile age of 42 and was lucky enough to be introduced to Modx by a tutor whilst doing my course and have never looked back (now the humble age of 45).

Age is definitely a state of mind, if at 60 you are still in amongst the thick of it, I feel humbled by my beginnings and hope to continue to learn and develop - the future is out there.
