I tried to "start at the beginning", and am nearing defeat on what I thought would be a simple document listing the updates since/before 0.9.2.1 that aren’t in 0.9.2.1 but that you wouldn’t want to use MODx without. It turns out to be far more subjective than I had thought. When I’ve asked which of two competing versions of a snippet is preferred, I’ve been told "Use what works for you". It is difficult to translate this into universal advice.

The only real tip for newbie newbies is "Come back later."

Further, using this forum is an absolute nightmare as the search facility is abysmal and the structure is so unclear that many people post in the wrong place. I can’t believe you cannot search for FAQ!!

Where should the FAQ go? I vote Support > General Support, but with a link to it like the Resources link, which just goes to a forum thread.

is (after a lot of discussion) basically "Oops, take out ../ in this file and you won’t have a problem with admin timeout".

SMF can be frustrating at times indeed... think I’ll go change the search method and see if that makes a difference. Please let me know.

I’ve updated the search index to as large an index as possible and the "custom" method. A few frustrating queries for me personally previously now return some pretty darned good results! For the curious, the index is actually larger than the message table and took about 5 minutes to create.

That’s great Ryan, though I’ve been able to manage so far using a favlet I "ported" from a Textpattern forum’s search favlet : favlet to google search MODx

Indeed forum search had become pretty useless....

Just wanted to say that most times MODx is simply amazing! I’m not much of a programmer but I can still read PHP code. And that is all what it takes with MODx. For example, yesterday I bundled weblogin and manager login together in five minutes. Just looked the snippets, copied part of the manager login snippet in to the weblogin snippet and KABOOM! Couldn’t believe it first but It worked perfectly What a great piece of work this system is and it’s even becoming better all the time!
