Plus they’re obsessed by loosing the first place... there’s quite a bit of pressure @M$...

That is why I despise MS, after watching their business practices for the last 15 years. They do not work to keep 1st place by putting out the #1 product, they use illegal marketing tactics (they have been convicted in numerous courts of law) and spread lies and FUD. They frequently have purchased licensing to use a certain product, have stolen far more than their licenses gave them the right to use, then after years of lawsuits settle for a few million dollars. And that is not even considering how Micro-Soft came to exist in the first place.

I can’t agree more with you, those guys are sharks but sadly for us they’re good at doing business that way. They managed to become a de facto standard and now... we’re stuck with them.

That will remain true unless :
      - linux becomes user user friendly enough not to scare non-savvy people (it’s on the good path)
      - Macs become cheaper

I won’t start this discussion about Microsoft, but I just want to share some of my thoughts about them though.

To be honest, most of us looking at microsoft from computer-savy perspective. Let see, how many of us use computer at least once a day? I will raise up my hand for sure. The the next question is, how many of us at least in some way or another use computer more than as internet browsing and using office products? That’s definetely us.

By knowing our position right now, we can say that we are more special than the majority of computer users out there. The only problem that most open source technology like linux unable to compete with microsoft is because they don’t really see O/S from this majority of computer users that doesn’t know anything about computer other than browsing the net, while in microsoft headquarter, they spent quite a huge amount of money to test the usability of their products, and how to market and provide easy to use solution for this huge market. But so far, I can see Ubuntu going to be one of the best competitor for Apple and Microsoft I believe.

In term about comparing Apple and Microsoft, oh well, it’s just a matter about who know how to do marketing and business. To be honest, if in the first place apple took the position of microsoft, I believe they will do the same kind of thing.

        It’s just my two cents...
We might hate microsoft, but we need to learn how they are able to succeed in the market place to be one of the largest and richest company in the world, which from my opinion, they have started it since a couple years ago, when software is not a commodity that are important or major to human compare to today. Why not the oil company which occupied most of the needs of human that becomes the largest/richest company, why not some other company like mcdonalds, walmart, or bla bla bla? wink It’s not something that we can ignore and keep shrinking our mind with saying that microsoft evil and because they are evil, they know how to get rich faster, but it’s because they have a better business model/plan/marketing and etc that can compete and even take down the world from a company like walmart, mcdonalds, disney, and etc.

Would love to learn more in depth about them though, even though they have quite a lot of problem with the way they do business, like what Susan said earlier. grin
