I’m also interested in MODx for an e-commerce solution. I’ve been looking at Zen Cart which seems to be highly regarded but got scared off by security issues. ie; I saw posts where folks were describing their sites being ’hacked’...where someone described how it was possible to take over Zen Cart ’folders’ and put in porno pictures or ~whatever. YIKES. I got the impression that because they were using Zen Cart code that they somehow were targeted... more vulnerable to this ’hack business’???? Dunno...maybe I don’t completely understand it all but it got me to reconsidering.

I just have a small hobby / business...selling some custom wood-turnings and will only be using PayPal. I don’t have huge inventories to keep track off so I don’t need a robust administration system. I would like to use a CMS system to be able to change out the offerings easily so I thought MODx might work. huh

          Comments / suggestions appreciated...

            Hi Jann,

MODx sounds ideal for your business, from observing this forum MODx seems to be very robust in terms of security.

The advantage of using a service such as FoxyCart is that they look after a large important portion of your security, by having the checkout page on their server you can be assured that their team maintains a secure environment for your customer data.

I can’t personally comment on Zen Cart as I’ve never used it, however I’m sure with the correct folder permission settings it can be made secure.

              Hi Sander....

Thanks for your response...however I’m wondering WHY I would need a payment feature other than a link [PayPal supplied code ] to a PayPal checkout page ??.. Am I missing / not considering something ?

You could either use PayPal link or Google Payments for this; all you need to do is follow their instructions for creating the proper link to their payment page.

yeah true Jann, if you only have a hand full of products and don’t need all the features offered by a complex checkout a simple Paypal or Google button would work fine.

Having the flexibility to use what every you wish with MODx is the reason I like this system so much.

sharkbait, nice to know Shopkeeper offers Paypal support, would this work in the UK?
