    Hi all,
    a newbie here.

I uploaded modx 2.0 beta to my site and everything installed well.

I have to say tho that the ftp upload of the modx2 directory and all its contents took longer than many of my movie files on my website did. Nevertheless I POR’d , press on regardless.

Now I am kind of concerned about another thing that seems to be taking a long time, but let me talk up to that first.

I have about 800 flash, mp4 and mp3s at videofeedback.com. All running off the swfobject and XSPF XML playlists.

So modx is highly desirable if I can get beyond the ramping up stages of never having used it beofre.

When the install ran I got a first run reports page indicating my Not Authorized page and some other pages were not publicly accessible. And subsequently I wasn’t sure how to update those strings but am guessing the "in page" text editor 2.0 provides allows me to update those various strings once I have figured out where my webhost has parked them in my upper level dir’s.

Modx is at the usr/var/www/html/ level. Most of the stuff is at the /html/ level.
My current 15 or 16 static pages are at /html/Marquis/
My index.htm page is at /html/
which is also the level where all my videos and other emdia are.

But the not authorized pages are located elsewhere above the /html/ level as those are provided by my webhost and i haven’t gone so far as to customize them, which I suppose should be in this year’s work load since I am pretty satisfied with my webhost and how they take care of me.

SO I have left those pages in "error". I did delete the setup directory.

Then I made my way into the "import resources from static files" page and guessed around a bit.

I left the "enter a base file path containing files to import" field empty and I left
"select a modResource class for import" fields empty.

The next field, "specify a comma delimited list of file extensions to import" I filled with:
htm, html, flv, FLV, mp4, MP4, mp3, MP3 extensions. Then I clicked import resources button.

Keep in mind I have over 800 videos to import but I have to ask now since I am "hogging" use of this PC from my other family, this saving routine has been running since 2pm yesterday, Sunday, and it’s now 830am on Monday. Has it been running too long or am I still good to go? And have a slipped anyway along the way as described above?

And is there any documentation of ver 2.0 beta that can get a never before user of modx 2.0 a little better oriented as to what he is doing? I will be happy to write that in the forums as I go along if not.

My only suggestion for the future might be to put "suggested" strings in the need to modify fields, like
    www.yourdomain.com or /html/this directory

Which I am sure is already in the plans since I can tell this is an extraordinary piece of work.

And of course as asked above something more to get one who hasn’t used modx a little more installtion and orientation guided.

Which btw I will upon my each and every success post into the forums under such a heading if one isn’t being done already.

Call me your guinea pig, and the setup tech writer then. If you can answer the above, I’ll continue plodding around and will then start my basic how to’s section as soon as I can feel my first webpage play a flash video and start walking with confidence. It is after all the least I can do, but will do more in the future to contribute.

    Thanks,
    VFB cb

Okay, I found the "newbies post your FAQs here" forum posts and the subsequent link to the wiki. But it’s all about the modx 1.0 version.

I have to tell you the 2.0 beta doesn’t need any of the added help as described in the wiki. Even tho it’s beta I suggest newpies start with the 2.0 beta version, you won’t have to bug your webhost tech department and can pretty much do the entire install yourself, just upload the mox 2.0 folder up via ftp to your /html/ directory, change the modx foldername to something shorter like modx2 (like I did), and then surf into www.yourdoamin.com/modx2/setup/index.php
and fill in the prompts as they come at you.
I had already created a database called multimedia on the MySQL section of my webhosts PHPMyAdmin section and I knew the root username, password and so on. Also don’t stop once you get started until you get to the managers page because the database connection and creation section will time out. I know this because I stopped to go get some tea and came back, then hit the next button and got a failed to connect to database response.

I just repeated setup and didn’t stop and was fine.

And modx 2.0 so far has gone without a hitch except the one I posted earleir today about the file extensions import and how long should it take.

      POR
      press on regardless

Glad you’re finding Beta 2 so easy to set up. Evolution is actually just as easy, but Revo is an amazing animal in and of itself grin

The most important thing to remember especially for newbies is that Revo is still in beta and not ready for production sites. It’s still getting a lot of work done on it and I believe features may change/be added, I don’t think it’s gone into code freeze yet. However, I know there are people running production sites on Revo, including the main MODx website, so it’s quite stable, just not for the faint of heart. I think it will be going into RC soon and thereafter GA at which point it will be safe for anyone to

The errors you get at the beginning about pages missing are not an error per se. They occur because unlike evolution, revolution at this point doesn’t come with sample resources installed, so there are no sample 404 pages, etc. Once you create your own resources, these "errors" will disappear. But they don’t mean anything’s broken.

okay, ty for the fast reply.

So besides modx 2 should I also be inclduing revo in this setup?

I didn’t see it in the downloads but I’m half blurry from monitor stare anyway.

Okay, well I am hitting a wall just now, my brother needs to disconnect this PC from the internet so he can connect his unit.

Can anyone read the above and tell me if I am about to do a bad thing? The saving module is still running on the database load.

              thanx

Okay, I tried somethings and am now at a wall.

I just tried from the manager’s page to load a preview page of my website, and got a 404 reply.

Also am I suppose to transfer my media files from their old location under my static html pages into the modx media folder?

                thanx

o wow, this is so cool.
Okay so I took my index.htm file and placed it in the core import folder and usder tools I did the import html routine and then I checked under site and preview and there was my index page like it was from my old site version.

                  okay POR, press on regardless.

However I still can’t seem to get the flash video files imported. I have one currently under the core import directory, it was skipped during the html import routine.
How do I get my flash files in and recognized by modx?

                  thnks
