Actually, MODx can work just fine on a Windows server. There’s a whole board dedicated to Windows and IIS installations; the moderator of that board, Onesmarthost, provides Windows web hosting.

I was aware MODx would run on a Windows server, but I’ve tried it in the past with many headaches. The weak link generally seems to be the hosting company though, and not Windows. As such, if I’m going to switch hosts, I figure I might as well go with Linux hosting, where my expectations are more frequently met.
However, for the six months or so that MODx was on the Windows server, I did consult the Windows/IIS board several times, and it was very helpful
The site was hosted with AT&T, and the client kept complaining about manager performance. It ended up being some problem with the MySQL servers, and AT&T would not cooperate in tracking down the issue, so we switched from AT&T Windows hosting to AT&T Linux hosting, and it’s worked swimmingly ever since. For the record, I do not recommend AT&T hosting, ever.
