dotnetnuke?

Hi,

I’ve been asked if I want to work on a project that uses dotnetnuke. I do not have more info at this point about the project.

My knowledge of .Net is limited. I tried to learn it 4 5 years ago but I had no project and I remember nothing. I also used to have some ASP experience 10 years ago.

So is anybody here that worked with dotnetnuke? Should I even consider learning a new CMS?

I used DNN for two years, never again - it’s a pain in the ass to put it mildly. I wouldn’t even consider working with it again.

It seems that somebody has already has developed something but did not finalize it.
I guess it’s 100 time easier to port everything in modx than go ahead with DNN.

Out of interest, for those who have used open source .NET CMSs and frameworks, which one is good to work with? Customisable and well-coded? I had a similar request for a site that integrated with existing .NET application. I thought it would be a natural choice to have the website also running ASP.NET for easier integration and feature access.

Anyone ever used a .NET CMS thats close to good and customisable? something MODx-ey-like

Umbraco is really rather good, so long as you don’t mind XSLT (if you’ve used Symphony you’ll be right at home).

Might be a little late for responding to this one, but I got halfway through a DNN project, and it just turned out to be such a horrible nightmare that I scrapped the entire thing, and convinced the client to switch to Linux hosting so we could use MODx. Everything was pretty smooth after that. It’s been more than a year, and that client’s web site has really grown, and MODx is still purring along like a kitten.

It’s the same client we wrote the TE Mailer module for (See post #54 - http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,19146.40.html). He has ~5,000 people on his newsletter subscription list, and it still seems to work great! *Knock on Wood*

Anyways, to stay on topic, if you can avoid using DotNetNuke, do yourself a favor - avoid it.
