Does google calendar allow outsiders to ’suggest events’? If so, you could use MODx google calendar snippet then use ajax to select certain fields. Thats my first thought at it.

I think you have to be registered with Google Calendar and then your entries go right into the calendar.
I believe there is an API for the Google Calendar, though, so there might be a way to have users suggest events in MODx, have an admin approve them, and then post them to GC.
The down side is that you have very little control over what the calendar looks like (unless you use the API and build your own).
I think the Google Events gives you a good bit of control over the output. There’s default chunks but a lot of little chunks too. I could be wrong.

If you are looking for a system which is completly integrated into modx and where you are free to make your own templates, manage the events from frontend, are free to store the events as documents or in a database you can try this:

thanks for the suggestions. i’ll try both. i know they fear google here, they are skeptical on their motives. but i’ll try and push it if i can get the snippet to work.

I think we’re both right here.
If you display Google’s calendar, you don’t have much control but the Google-Events snippet gets the events through the API and creates its own calendar display, which you can modify.
One plus of using Google’s calendar (with either method) is that Google has a pretty user-friendly interface for entering new events.
Last time I checked, the Google calendar display had very poor word wrap for events with longer names. They may have fixed it by now (just checked -- nope). You can see an example here:

Yeah there iframe embed leaves a LOT to be desired. But the snippet using the API is great. I just set it up for a client and wondered how he would feel since it’s not in MODx. He loves it! Since he’s using Google Apps for his email- he just hops over to the calendar when needed.
i love how this googleevents snippet is working. does anyone have ideas how to send the email request? or where i can find the tutorial for something like that? i did a google search for a while and didn’t have luck.
What do you mean by ’email request’ fse?
