What browsers/platforms do you test on?

I test in FF2, IE6 & IE7. When it works in those 3 it works in opera to most of the times and im sure safari wont give any problems either.

- I build for firefox 1.5 & Safari on my Mac laptop and a linux box
- When the layout is complete i go to W3C and made css / html checks who clean a lot the code
- One more html/css test on iCab on my mac until he smile & for testing the "link rel" stuff -> http://www.icab.de/
- Test on Lynx very useful -> source order / forgotent alt tags
- A quick test on Opera / Konkeror just for see but it’s generaly ok
At this time the layout is supose to be standart compliant and validated
- I keep the hard part for the end : IE6 :-( (and now IE7) I ony hack if really necessary and if it not break standart compliance

- I do not test for AOL / Netscape / Handled devices

I’m usually devving for Firefox (2.0/3.0 atm), combined with the famous IEView so I can take a look at the mess IE 6 makes of my code. To check the source I’m often using the Lynx plugin for Firefox as well as the ’View Source Chart’ (for a schematic view), Web Developer Toolbar, Firebug and last but not least the HTML Validator extension.

Besides that I usually also test on Opera 8/9 in the end, but usually it’s not giving any trouble at all.

I’m testing on a Ubuntu 6.10 machine on localhost (apache 2.x, php5.x,mysql5.x) with the following browsers:
Firefox 2.0.x+
IE 5 , 5.5 , 6 , (and 7 soon - IES4Linux ) trough WINE .
Konquerer ( built on khtml , the part that Safari was initialy built on).
And that’s about it.
After finishing a design I upload it and access WinXp to ensure everything’s well .

What a chore .

first off i just would like everyone to know about http://browsershots.org which takes screen shots in any browser of your choice on a very wide variety of platforms

me i have a winXP box though and i test in firefox 2.0 and ie 6 and 7

and i always look at ie 5.5 but only tweak for it if its not too much trouble and i look at opera too but its just as good as firefox when it comes to teh standards so i generally don’t worrry about it because most of my user base is pretty much using ie 6 unless they are a little more intelligent and have downloaded ie 7 or are wonderful geniuses and have acquired the beautiful firefox

i use conditional comments for any excess ie junk i have to put in

and also you can get just about every browser for a lot of platforms here http://browsers.evolt.org/

its marvelous I’ve got ie 3 lol (but they have all the way back to 1 !!!)

tbh with all of you, almost 65% of internet users browse with IE and 30% with Firefox. To check on Safari, Opera and other god knows how many users they have browser is just a waste of time.

I check on Mozilla FF 2.0 and IE 7.0 since it even buggier than 6.0.

Validate the code through different testers

Just if someone doesn’t know there is a great plugin for Mozilla called Web Development Toolbar, it can easily validate code and much much more. I would recommend it to any developer. You can find it on Mozilla website along with all other great add-ons

It depends, on my site about 10% of visitors use Safari.
Besides I think that if you care about what you’re doing, you make your sites as pretty and usable as possible for every user, not just the ones that happen to be using a common browser. Apart from that, 3-5% of users is a large number of people for many sites.
Fortunately, if a site looks fine in FF, it’s usally OK in Safari/Opera as well

really? i always come across random bugs and display differences between firefox and Safari. Currently I seem to be spending more time dealing with Safari than IE7.

That’s completely the opposite of my experience, well as long as you’re not talking Rich Text Editors like Tiny MCE. IE7 is much much better than IE6, but you still have to take IE6 into account.
