DataFrolic: Coming soon to a repository near you!

This is the first plugin I’ve seen for modx that could really simplify custom db implementation, stepping around the ’±5000 document limit’ by providing an easy means to store data without having to rely on resources and tvs. Not to mention a manageable way for end-users to add/edit/delete that data.

I’ve seen numerous forum threads practically begging for something like this and I wish I had seen it sooner; really surprised that it hasn’t taken off!

Has any more progress been made on this plugin to date? Or is the existing code in any state to be easily adapted to another project?

Yes, this is an awesome idea. However, no more progress has been made (I needed it just for one project,) at least as far as I know. Its been a while since I looked at the code, but I think if someone were to try and adopt it, it would require some struggle to understand. If I were you I would look at what’s been done, esp for the MODx hooks and such, and then rewrite it in to a ship-shape MVC.

As far as getting it ship-shape, my coding is unfortunately limited to basic snippets and hacking together existing bits of code

But I will have a look and see if I can understand how it works. I have one or two sites that will rely on custom data tables and I’m yet to find an easy way for a client to manage the data. I particularly like the way the interface works within the tabs on the resource page -would be a great way to manage product listings/inventories, blog posts, mailing lists... so many applications I can think of.

As I said, I’m really surprised this hasn’t had more interest!
