Very interesting...does the same thing on my localhost. A "view source" shows the whole page is still being loaded, it’s just not displaying anything. Definitely something odd going on in the CSS.

ok... try putting the closing </style> tag after your css file include. Rule #1: validate your page (http://validator.w3.org/) if something strange is going on.

Now why it would work when you’re logged in is another question; it shouldn’t be working for anybody.

It makes things easier for everybody if you would post your code inside of code tags (the # icon).

Ok now I feel silly it seems that the linking of the css was all wrong and as pointed out by sottwell (Thankyou again!!)
I’m loading up your posted template and CSS to see how it behaves for me. I don’t ever use the @include with CSS, I always just use <link> tags, although that shouldn’t make a difference. If you’re getting the background color, then the CSS file is getting loaded. But I’ll see what happens and get back to you.

the simple <link> tags work with a relative url.

as for the background color and it working when I was logged in as you said no one should be able to see it. a mystery

Thank you once again I owe you a beer..

II have had this happen twice now on one client’s site, a random page’s cache file was written, but the permissions were at 000, which meant that it exists but can’t be read or written. The PHP is_file() function that the parser uses only checks if the file exists at all, not if it can be read or written. He’s also getting occasional database failure, so my diagnosis is an overloaded and/or badly configured shared server.

            Hi Susan,

Did you ever track down the root cause or were you able to confirm database starvation as the reason for the corrupted 000-permission cache files?
