We came into a project that was half-way done and tried to salvage something from it. The client was using a template they downloaded off the internet and their budget was tight. We did what we could with their meager budget and they were thrilled with the result. It was MaxiGallery and Ditto to the rescue! Took only about two days to do and they seemed to be rather impressed. I guess what I meant to say was that it is possible to build a simple real estate site in ModX and quickly too. However, there are some fabulous examples hidden here in the forum of what can be done with ModX.

John,
I still use OR but I find it awfully clunky. While templating is easy in OR customization is painful. The whole addon structure is very restrictive and unituitive. I have a number of RE clients and I would love to build a RE site on MODx but there are a number of considerations:
1. Are they going to input their own listings? OR do they need RETS integration?
2. Is it a broker site? Broker sites need to have multiple agents, agent profiles and possibly user management.
3. What listings information do they wish to share? What fields are necessary?
Jay,
Does RETS return an xml string from the query?

Yes, But RETS 1.5 (which is what most MLS groups are using) is a non standard XML feed and needs to be parsed by custom RegEx to get the data cleaned and sorted. RETS 1.7+ uses well formed XML and therefore is much easier to use as you can style it as you would any XML source.
I have found a really nice RETS php class to grab the data but as I said you’d need to clean the XML for output or conversion to MySQL. In addition the RETS 1.5 standard is often deviated from from server to server so each xml output would need to be customized on a per server basis.
If anyone is interested in working on building out a RETS Module for MODx I’d be game on getting started. Just let me know.
Cheers,
Jay

I still have hope that ER will be able to find time to write a tutorial about how he developed his excellent
<<url deleted, looks like it has a virus on it>> site.
It’s worthy of recognition... and still well beyond what I can accomplish with my programming skill set.
I removed the links to the site that ER made, seems to be that it has a virus on it. In the bottom of the site there was some scrambled javascript that makes a connection to a russian site. It was the second time I saw a virus like this on a modx site, looks like a new security breach??

Looks to me more like an old unpatched version of MODx, likely running on a server with register_globals set to ON.
