    hello

i m a newbee and wonder how i can implement this in modx:
i want to setup a kind of bloglike community website
people can register and post news with text and pictures or videos
    nonregistered visitors can write comments
posts should be sorted by date, categories or authors
in theory i could get a large amount of autors
i had a look at the tutorials in the forum, wiki and documentation how advanced people do blogs
and had a look at the mini-blog wich comes with modx0.9.5
as i can see the NewsPublisher generates for each post an document in the manager sitetree

but if i got 1000 autors posting hundreds of posts they all will appear in my managertree !
do you know a way to manage the posts differenty ?
would it make sense to generate while the registration-process a folder per user ?
but then i still got 1000 folders in my manager tree

    thanks for any help

    tobias

I’would tell the app to categorize post to these folders [YEAR]->[MONTH]->[WEEK]->[DAY] and put it in the according folders in y manager tree. still 1000 posts but betta sorted, nicer look. In php of course.

That’s not a good application for MODx right now. You’ll run into serious issues with a growing site cache size.

same^^ modx is for mid-sized applications..
If you want realy big enterprise level applications try tomcat applications.

I am doing something like that at the moment and I see no real problems. If the cach starts to mess up I’ll just disable it I guess. The problem with the manager tree is something im gonna work around with an own written news manager module or something I think wink

I’ve also the opinion that user generated (posts etc.) and admin generated sites need to be seperated extra.

In all fairness, there’s a LOT of progress being made in the next version of Ditto... whereas the 1.0.2 version would time out on ~5000 documents, this version is working in under 3 seconds. wink

means the server will run out of ram ?
we will have our own server for this project
                      so adding ram could help
