I was wondering how difficult it would be to convert this template to MODx, while maintaining all the features that it has built into it? It can be located here?

Has anyone started working on such a port? Also, I do know he is looking to advance the series to Multiflex-3, and his code quality and designs just get better with each new version.

The one in the repo is based on multiflex1, so yes this is newer. The repo thread for the other version should give broad porting hints.

The one in the repo is the one I did.
I knew that there was a version 2 but I liked the layout of version 1 better.

Converting it is not that hard if you’ve done conversions before. However, the hardest part was to set up "a multilingual system" and set up the menus to mimic to best degree which, I just gave up on towards the end.

You also need to consider do you just make something look like the template with modx content or do you go all the way and try to do your best to match what the original author created.

There are also patches for IE 6 in a thread somewhere.

          Good luck and have fun!

Hello, I am the original author of the Multiflex template series. I am currently working on Multiflex-3, it has some really nice cool new features, better code and less unnecessary options to make it easier for porting to CMS. One interesting new feature are the drop-down menus for the main navigation, as well as a more current web2.0 style appearance. I am planning to submit it to www.opewebdesign.org by the end of October 2006. A few weeks ago I decided to switch over to MODX CMS (from Drupal), but since I am new to MODX, I don’t know how to port a template, so I would be happy to join you guys in getting Multiflex-3 over to MODX CMS!

Great news gwolfgang, I love the Multiflex templates and was looking to port version two by using Carsten’s port of the earlier version to give me hints on how to go about this. I too am relatively new to MODx but love its possibilities. I will look forward to version 3 while in the meantime I may try porting a few simpler templates for practise.

              Welcome to MODx gwolfgang!

I ported your GoFlexiblePro a while ago. You could download it from http://modxcms.com/GoFlexibleX-Template-912.html and see how it was done.

Great to have you on board!

One question about your new Multiflex-3 template: The modern way of designing templates is to put content first on the page, for accessibility and SEO. Will your upcoming templates support this?

For anyone else wondering why this is important there are lots of articles, google for "css content order" or similar. Or try http://www.informit.com/guides/content.asp?g=webdesign&seqNum=288&rl=1, it was the first one I found.

                    Welcome Wolfgang!

Glad to have you (the original author of Multiflex) onboard!

Now, I don’t have to feel the pressure of doing a poor imitation of your template!

The Multiflex-3 code will be substantially more optimized and compact compared to all my previous templates, that is, less HTML tags, making content come more into the front, which is a good thing for SEO. I am also planning make it source-ordered. By the way, nice to know that GoFlexible was ported. Good job there! Didn’t know so many of my templates made their way to MODX.

If you have any suggestions or wishes for the upcoming Multiflex-3, just drop a note here in the forum, now is still the time to incorporate changes.

                      Take care
