    MODx 2.0.4-pl2 traditional
    PHP 5.3.2
MySQL 5.1.44 (server, client version is the one that ships with PHP 5.3.2)
    IIS 6, Win Server 2003

All pre-install checks come out fine, but installation throws the following error:
The install failed because MODx could not unpack the E:/Sites/site1/core/packages/core.transport.zip package. Make sure that the E:/Sites/site1/core/packages/core.transport.zip file exists and is writable, and that you have made the E:/Sites/site1/core/packages/ directory writable.

Also, I get a bunch of PHP errors like the following (haven’t turned it off so I can debug initially):
PHP Warning: PDO::query() [pdo.query]: SQLSTATE[42S02]: Base table or view not found: 1146 Table 'testDB.modx_member_groups' doesn't exist in E:\Sites\site1\core\xpdo\xpdo.class.php on line 1882

I’ve tried the installation instructions stickied in this forum with the same result. PHP and MySQL work fine as they are in use in other sites/programs on the server. All extensions required are enabled (such as pdo_mysql), which the pre-installation check confirms as I mentioned.

Any ideas? I’ve looked around and found nothing, sorry if I missed it somewhere.

The first issue is permission related. Ensure the server has permission to write the following:

      E:/Sites/site1/core/packages/core.transport.zip
      E:/Sites/site1/core/packages/

Writable by the server (unsure of correct win permissions).

The second issue I don’t know what to say, but that should help some I hope.

As I’ve said, the directory is writeable per the pre-install checklist. I have also manually given write permission (to IUSR) to no effect (which I didn’t mention sorry). No dice. I’m on probably the 15th fresh installation attempt, this is rather annoying. Might have to find something else, ModX just seemed so promising...hoping someone will come up with something.

It’s unlikely a new install will resolve the issue, it sounds permission based. If anything you could try evolution.... If Aaron sees this post he can help you more. I know MODx runs on windows, Aarons the expert on it smiley

ill ping him on twitter for you

Thanks. I know lots of people have said 2.0.x works fine on IIS, obviously I must be missing something. This isn’t the first time I’ve had permission issues with this box...

              Hi,

Is E:/Sites/ your IIS local path / home directory for the website?

If so could you look at the NTFS Security permissions and let me know which users are under this tab and the security permission they have.

For example on our servers users home directories are:

              D:\Domains\domainname.com\wwwroot

              And the permissions are

              IIS_USR - Modify
              IIS_WPG - Modify
              Administrators - Full Control
              SYSTEM - Full Control

If yours are the above click the advanced button and uncheck the box (f its checked) "allow inheritable permissions" if you click this when prompted click copy, now click the 2nd check box replace permission entries on all child objects, and then click OK.

This will apply the correct permissions to the entire site.

Also you mentioned that your site is having problems with core.transport.zip does this exist? and if so is extension=php_zip.dll enabled in php.ini

              Thanks Aaron

Home directory str5ucture on this box is E:\Sites\sitea.com for site1, etc. I changed the path in my first post just to obfuscate which domain it is for. These are all set up properly as I can access them remotely (through the internet) and I have probably 6 domains/subdomains running just fine. I am not running this installation locally on the server, but through the browser on an off-site computer.

Permissions for the applicable home directory:

                Administrators - full control
                creator_owner - special
ftp_user - full control (for ftp access)
                system - full control
                iusr - modify, read, list

I did as you suggested with the iusr account advanced options (which I have also tried before now that I think about it). Same error (though the php errors have left, which occasionally happens after a new install where I only clean out the DB and run a new install again).

The core.transport.zip file certainly exists, has the permissions needed, etc. Yes, php_zip.dll is enabled in php.ini.

Thanks for the help, hope you might have an idea now.

You mention IUSR has modify, read, list does it have write?

Oops, yes it does, sorry about that.

The interesting thing is that I get exactly the same behaviour if I do NOT set any permissions for IUSR. The install can still write to the php file, etc, just has issues with the core.transport.zip.

Unless someone has a better idea, I’m going to reinstall PHP tonight. I seem to recall having issues getting one or 2 extensions running when I set it up (PDO might not have been included or something and I had to grab an old version perhaps?) It’s a pain since it is a production server and the main website needs it but I can put up a temporary maintenance page (this would be so much easier if I had modX!).

Reinstallation of PHP didn’t help, though extensions loaded nicely this time, woot! I get exactly the same error, all permissions are as discussed earlier, it’s all rather strange. Any other ideas guys?
