    I remember having asked the support of another OSS web application why they used absolute URL referencing for all their assets.

    If it was to address path issues, I think this is the reason why

        Do you have any access to the server at all? i.e to check the NTFS Permissions by default the IIS Web user for that domain folder should have modify rights and be able to create its own config file.

        I’m not sure how to check if the file is intact i.e. no blank lines before the start will try and work out a way to check. One thing to make sure you do is upload the newly created config file in binary mode.

          Unfortunately I do not have server access. I did notice that it also supports asp.net as it has the folders: _private, _vti_log, aspnet_client. In case there is a quick n dirty ASP.NET script to check that

          I’ve reuploaded in binary mode and still havent had any success

            I forgot to mention make sure the uploaded config file has no spaces or line breaks before <?php

            and also after ?>

              I’ve checked an rechecked on spaces and carriage returns. I may have identified the problem,though.

              I took a look at this error:

              Warning: filesize() [function.filesize]: Stat failed for C:/Inetpub/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/demo2/manager/media/style//login.html (errno=2 - No such file or directory) in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\domain.com\httpdocs\demo2\manager\includes\accesscontrol.inc.php on line 130

              It was not filling in the manager style to be used. So I edited accesscontrol.inc.php, line 129, and manually inserted one of the manager styles

              $tplFile = $base_path.'manager/media/style/'.'MODxLight'.'/login.html';

              It managed to show the manager login, though it still had some notifications

              I switched error reporting back to the original setting in config.inc.php and I managed to login

              The manager was not styled. I did see the document tree(as an unstlyed list on the right) but had no access to the tabs.

              A question which I think would help us find the source of the problem is where MODx gets the variable "$manager_theme" on line 128, in accesscontrol.inc.php

              $tplFile = $base_path.’manager/media/style/’.$manager_theme.’/login.html’;

              If it’s from a file, then maybe its a file permissions issue. If it is from the database, maybe something is wrong with the connection. Or maybe I would be very lucky to have a developer who knows MODx in and out to point out the problem.

              At least if I can point out the problem, I can then approach the web host knowing exactly what to request from them... their support is very bad.
