I’m re-designing a website for a client. They already have a hosting environment:
    Microsoft-IIS/6.0
    mysql 3.23.49
    MySQL Version: 5.0.45-community-nt-log
    PHP Version 4.4.7

I noted that modx requires MySQL 4.1.20 or newer

It is not easy for me to change a web host as the domain is closely tied to the ISP, hence email services for the entire corporate.

Should I fall back to a much earlier version of Modx? I cant let go of it and we also know that ISPs/web hosting companies do not just install or upgrade software if they are comfortable with an old one. Especially this side of the world wink

I hope that there are minor issues.

    EDIT:

I made a mistake on the MySQL version. I had used the mysql api version from phpinfo(); which is different from the MySQL version. Sorry. But I still do have errors

If you could share error description, then it might be helpful.

        Thank-you for responding.

The error I initially got was:

[tt]Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at C:\Inetpub\vhosts\interfresh.co.zw\httpdocs\demo2\manager\includes\config.inc.php:1) in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\www.domain.com\httpdocs\demo2\manager\index.php on line 148[/tt]

        and other similar errors

Then I modified manager/includes/config.inc.php to report all errors:

        //error_reporting(E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE);
        error_reporting(E_ALL);

These are the notifications I then got:

        [tt]Notice: Use of undefined constant SNIPPET_INTERACTIVE_MODE - assumed ’SNIPPET_INTERACTIVE_MODE’ in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\www.domain.com\httpdocs\demo2\manager\includes\document.parser.class.inc.php on line 1982

These errors show up when I try getting to the manager login using:
          www.domain.com/manager

The home page shows nothing. Just blank.

Another thing that may be helpful was that

            • on installing, I had to set the character set to latin1_swedish_ci
            • I had to manually copy the config file settings from the installer to the file(config.inc.php) I had to create in manager/includes/

Sounds like you have a corrupt file somewhere.

When ever I move a physical site between servers I always upload the latest MODx version and overwrite all files unless you have customised any /assets/snippets etc then go to /install in the browser and perform an upgrade.

The upgrade will keep your site database intact along with any templates / images you have made.

In the past I have seen sites which throw blank pages when moved between hosts and the upgrade / reinstall generally fixes all these problems.

I re-uploaded the fresh modx files. It was a another new installation. I have done other installations before with no problems but they were never on a windows platform. Thats why I thought that maybe its an IIS issue.

could this have anything to do with path conflicts? the way IIS/Windows handles paths or directories being different from the way Apache/*nix handles them?

                  I could be dead wrong.

I have windows, apache on my development environment and have installed modX on other linux servers with no problems. but IIS spells a different problem.

On the onesmarthost servers which is IIS our paths are like

                    D:\Domains\domainname.com\wwwroot

I have seen your type of error before and it is normally because the index.php or config file contains a line break at the top which php interprets as the first line of code. Replacing these files normally fixes this.

Does a fresh install work on this IIS server? are you able to do a brand new install with no problems? If possible try this to rule out a problem with transfering the site against a problem with the way the server is setup.

I replaced the index file with the one straight from the modx archive

I also created a blank php file and copied the config contents of the old config file and replaced it with a new one

is this line break hidden? how do I identify it?

from my Dreamweaver, I cant see any extra spaces or breaks before the <?php tag

                      are these breaks located elsewhere?

I’ve made my third install on the server. The only glitches I faced on installing was that I had to select a different character set from the default. Then the permissions problem the installer faced when trying to create the config file.

I copied the config.php contents given by the installer, created a blank document and pasted.

Dont know if there is more I have to do.

Are there also special permissions on any directory that ModX would require to run?

This is frustrating. I do, however, appreciate your support.
