      You also need to make sure your ISUR_ account has read/write access to the session folder:

      session.save_path C:\WINDOWS\Temp

          Hi

          I’m not sure if you missed my last message but your php sessions folder also needs the right permissions

          c:\windows\temp ISUR_machinename needs read / write access.

            Even though I feel that it might become a security issue, I added read and write access to c:\windows\temp and all its child objects - to all users and usergroups on my machine.

            The issue persists.

            Thanks for your continuous support,

              PHP needs read/write access to store sessions the same needs to be applied to upload / tmp folders where php is located.

              Is this a server you setup yourself? I notice that plesk is listed in php info which makes me thinks perhaps a hosting company has set this up for you?

              I generally install PHP to c:\apps\php
              session temp is c:\apps\php\sessiondata

              As it is good to keep away from the Windows Folder.

              as a quick test to check sessions are working on your server could you try this

              create a new file in your website folder called page1.php

              <?php
              // page1.php

              session_start();

              echo ’Welcome to page #1’;

              $_SESSION[’favcolor’] = ’green’;
              $_SESSION[’animal’] = ’cat’;
              $_SESSION[’time’] = time();

              // Works if session cookie was accepted
              echo ’
              <a href="page2.php">page 2</a>’;

              // Or maybe pass along the session id, if needed
              echo ’
              <a href="page2.php?’ . SID . ’">page 2</a>’;
              ?>

              and create another one called page2.php

              <?php
              // page2.php

              session_start();

              echo ’Welcome to page #2
              ’;

              echo $_SESSION[’favcolor’]; // green
              echo $_SESSION[’animal’]; // cat
              echo date(’Y m d H:i:s’, $_SESSION[’time’]);

              // You may want to use SID here, like we did in page1.php
              echo ’
              <a href="page1.php">page 1</a>’;
              ?>

              Then go to page1 in your browser and it should show you a hyperlink to page2 click that and on the page it should echo out the session data green, car, and the time when you accessed page1

                I’ve tried to add my ISUR_xxx user to the c:\windows\temp security policy but the server cannot identify this user because it is outside the scope of web services.

                How can I overcome this problem?

                  On the server open up IIS Manager expand websites and right click the website you are working on.

                  If this is the only site on the server right click Default Web Site otherwise right click the websitename shown and select properties.

                  Now click the Directory Security Tab then Click Edit under authentication and access control. The following box will show you the account which this website runs as. for example on my server for default website it is ISUR_NEPTUNE you need to make a note of the account listed.

                  This account needs modify rights to the httdocs folder
                  read/write access to c:\windows\temp

                    Dear Onesmarthost,

                    1. Page1 and 2 are in place and working fine.

                    2. I had vBulletin and PHPRunner running flawlessly on the domain.

                    3. This indeed is a domain that is installed on a HostGator dedicated server. I didn’t initialize the machine and IIS by myself. I do, however manage them both or - at least - try to smiley

                    4. I did assign modify / list / read /write permissions to ISUR_celebrities for httpdocs and all its child-objects.

                    5. I cannot assign read/write permissions to ISUR_celebrities for c:\windows\temp because this user isn’t recognized outsite the scope of web services. Instead I made sure to assign these privileges to ALL user groups that I found there and didn’t have these permissions to start with.

                      Its certainly a strange one.

                      im interested to know why index.php on the root of the site shows nothing could you edit index.php and add right below <?php

                      error_reporting(E_ALL);
                      ini_set("display_errors", 1);

                      Other than that try and reupload the MODx install files annd make sure you replace all permissions on all sub folders and directories.

                      If neither of the above work let me know I could if you wish do some remote assistance session with you to look at the server directly.
