    Hi Aaron and thanks. I’ve just come from your post here - http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,20187.0.html and yes it was the sessions folder that was having issues, although I didn’t set any specific user permissions on it.

    There’s also a temporary upload directory in the php.ini file which points to the old folder, any thoughts on whether I should update that to the new folder too?

      If you can create a seperate folder for your uploads to keep them seperate.

      So is the installer working now that you have updated the sessions folder?

      Thanks

        Yes, install is now working - language chosen, acceptance blindly ticked and db connection passed.

        However, it’s failed on "Checking table prefix ``: Failed! - Table prefix does not exist in this database!".

        I entered a prefix at first (modx_) which gave the same error, so I went back and removed it. Still no joy.
        Do the tables need to be created first? Is there a script that should be run before I get to this step in the install process?

          Are you able to log into the database with phpmyadmin ok? I once had a similar problem like this but it was because the table prefix was already taken.

          Thanks

            I can view the db, there’s no tables created at all.

            Should I just bypass this step and run the .sql files in the /install folder?

              Oh ignore me, I’m an idiot.

              Instead of installing MODx, I was bloody trying to do an Advanced Upgrade huh huh huh

              Tried the INSTALL option and voila - "Installation was successful!".

              Cheers Aaron!

                  Hello,
                  I’d like to add something to this topic for the next viewer.

                  While installing v0.9.6.1p2 (current as of August 30, 2008)
                  Platform:
                  Windows XP (SP3)
                  PHP 5.2.6
                  Apache 2.2
                  mySQL 5

                  While running a fresh INSTALL process, I too encountered the infinite page loop.
                  Based on comments made here, I was able to find (at least in my case) a fix.

                  In the original code, the "IF" statement testing for PORT 80 is not "{" bracketed.
                  Thus, the "IF" statement inside the first "IF" statement wasn’t correctly ending.

                  The following changes fixed it for me.... added NEW LEFT BRACKET and NEW RIGHT BRACKET where indicated.
                  Hope this helps the next guy.

                  ///////////////////////////// modified code here ///////////////////
                  // session loop-back tester
                  if (!$_SESSION[’session_test’] && $_GET[’s’] != ’set’) {
                  $_SESSION[’session_test’] = 1;
                  $installBaseUrl = (!isset ($_SERVER[’HTTPS’]) || strtolower($_SERVER[’HTTPS’]) != ’on’) ? ’http://’ : ’https://’;
                  $installBaseUrl .= $_SERVER[’HTTP_HOST’];
                  if ($_SERVER[’SERVER_PORT’] != 80) { // NEW LEFT BRACKET
                  $installBaseUrl = str_replace(’:’ . $_SERVER[’SERVER_PORT’], ’’, $installBaseUrl); // remove port from HTTP_HOST
                  $installBaseUrl .= ($_SERVER[’SERVER_PORT’] == 80 || isset ($_SERVER[’HTTPS’]) || strtolower($_SERVER[’HTTPS’]) == ’on’) ? ’’ : ’:’ . $_SERVER[’SERVER_PORT’];
                  echo "<html><head><title>" . $_lang[’loading’] . "</title><script>window.location.href=’" . $installBaseUrl . $_SERVER[’PHP_SELF’] . "?action=language’;</script></head><body></body></html>";
                  exit;
                  } //NEW RIGHT BRACKET
                  }
