    Hi all,

    I uploaded the modx files to a windows server and went to the install url - but the page seems stuck in a loop, endlessly either refreshing or redirecting to itself... er... thats not supposed to happen right?

      Hmm that sounds exactly like the thing that happened here: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,21288.0.html

      Edit: Sorry, the link doesn’t provide a lot of useful information. Read on page 2 or visit this post, maybe that helps: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,20770.0/topicseen.html

        Thanks for the reply banal...

        I have read through the other posts and the problems cant be solved there - they were using a differnet OS / web server and my php.ini and sessions are fine...

        Im using a dedicated windows server with iis6, all files uplaodes to domain.com/modx/

        php & mysql fine and running 40 to 50 sites...

        hmmm... i think im going to open up the php files and look for the problem as my environment should be fine... unless modx used something like Curl or another "add on" or module...

        Any ideas?

          Maybe it can be manually installed without using the installer?

            The easiest way for a "manual" installation would probably be to set it up normally on a working environment and then uploading this to your server.

            If you look at the index.php in the install directory, you’ll see a "session test loop" (refreshing the url via window.location.href). Maybe there is a bug occuring with this code on your configuration. If you remove the "window.location.href" javascript code, does your page still refresh? If not, the problem lies within the session initialization. Maybe some of the $_SERVER Variables are not set as expected on your webserver? I don’t have any experience with iis so i can’t help you that much.

                Thanks for the welcome!

                I have not solved this problem yet as im a bit busy to look at it some more... But i have seen a few other posts in other topics about the same kind of problem. I think its just some javascript going wrong. I can’t post the url of the test site for security wink but i will come back to this topic in a few days after playing around with it.

                Thanks again!

                  This "loop" you keep referring to is a result of the session check failing. Once you resolve your configuration issues with PHP sessions (or possibly this issue -- http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,20407.msg126794.html#msg126794), this should work just fine.

                    I’ve just tried to install MODx on a Windows server with IIS and have the same. It’s looping when it hits the session loop back test OpenGeek mentioned:
                    if (!$_SESSION['session_test'] && $_GET['s'] != 'set') {
                        $_SESSION['session_test'] = 1;
                        $installBaseUrl = (!isset ($_SERVER['HTTPS']) || strtolower($_SERVER['HTTPS']) != 'on') ? 'http://' : 'https://';
                        $installBaseUrl .= $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'];
                        if ($_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'] != 80)
                            $installBaseUrl = str_replace(':' . $_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'], '', $installBaseUrl); // remove port from HTTP_HOST
                        $installBaseUrl .= ($_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'] == 80 || isset ($_SERVER['HTTPS']) || strtolower($_SERVER['HTTPS']) == 'on') ? '' : ':' . $_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'];
                        echo "<html><head><title>" . $_lang['loading'] . "</title><script>window.location.href='" . $installBaseUrl . $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'] . "?action=language';</script></head><body></body></html>";
                        exit;
                    }

                    I’ve had other WIMP (just checked and it’s a real term lol) installations working fine so I’m reluctant to modify anything within php.ini unless absolutely necessary.

                    PHP Version 5.2.5 and I’ve got no value in the doc_root and user_dir directives. Permissions on the folders suggested have been maxed out to 777, suspect cache files have been deleted.

                      Hi Joff,

                      Welcome to MODx this thread which I replied to a while ago should help you.

                      http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,21288.msg135809.html#msg135809

                      The problem is due to your setup not being able to create PHP Sessions it could either be a path problem or permissions problem on the sessions folder.

                      Thanks
