    Actually, after reading that KB article, it looks like you have access to manually edit the vhost.conf file where the open_base_dir settings may actually be causing this problem. Try it with the open_base_dir setting off as described in the KB article and see if that solves the problem.

    The support team at MT told me that I need to set the include_path in the .htaccess file for the manager, and as a courtesy did so for one of our sites:
    php_value include_path "/var/www/vhosts/alexanarista.com/httpdocs/manager/includes/:."

    I’m going to replicate this method on the other sites and test them for the next couple days to make sure this indeed does solve the issue. If not, I’ll try your suggestion above.

      Did this work? I have just set up an MT account for DV and need install many domains with MODx.

        Yup, it seems to have solved the issue. I haven’t experienced any issue since updating the .htaccess file for the manager . . . wink

          Well since my last post - this workaround seems to work about 80-90% of the time. I still find it having the same problem here and there and then restarting apache seems to resolve it - I think anyway.

          Is there anyway to hard code the included path for the manager within the manager’s index.php file? I’m not a php wiz but I do see where it’s supposed to be setting the include path but don’t know how I would hard code it in there . . .

          or any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

            The best suggestion I have is tell them to remove the php_admin_value setting in Apache that is preventing normal operation of set_include_path() or you’ll have to edit all includes in the manager to use the full path to the file. I would personally never use a host that imposed this limitation.

              I’m glad I got the notification this morning. I was going to return to MT next week after I read about the .htaccess workaround. Thanks Scitekmike for keeping us up to date.

                The issue isn’t the host so much as it’s a PLESK issue. PLESK requires the php_admin value to work properly. Anyhow, what I’ve done now is hard coded in the include path in the manager’s index.php file:

                // set some runtime options
                $incPath = '/var/www/vhosts/colorado-apts.com/httpdocs/manager/includes';
                if(version_compare(phpversion(), "4.3.0")>=0) {
                    set_include_path($incPath); // this now works, above code did not?
                } else {
                    ini_set("include_path", $incPath); // include path the old way
                }

                I will monitor for the next day or two and post an update on if this fixes it for us 100% or not.

                  Right, my bad; I should have said I would never use PLESK (or CPanel for that matter). wink

                    Well here is an update and some other useful information. First off, a support person at MT called me after reading this thread - which I was both happy and surprised about. She said that one, PLESK runs in a different instance than the rest of the server - so essentially the php_admin value should not be an issue. After speaking with her a bit, she thought that it was possibly a php bug and suggested we try upgrading the server to php 5.2.6. The request was submitted to do the upgrade and about 2hrs later I was notified it was completed, This was on Friday 6/6. Today, I’m happy to report that upgrading seems to have resolved the issue. I removed the php include value set in my htaccess files, reverted back the original code in the manager’s index.php doc (instead of hard coding in the include dir) and have not had any issues since.

                    Success!

                      I’m on a Media Template DV package running PHP 5.2.5. Manager is still blank and spotty. I’ve been dealing with this issue for months now. I really wish someone had a definitive answer. huh

                      Regards,
