Let me just say BE VERY VARY OF MOSSO
I used them for about 6 months on some of my client sites (static and LAMP). They were down SOOOOOO much. One full weekend their mysql servers were down.
Thats a big deal when you’re paying $100 a month. If I’m going to pay $100 a month, Ill go with something fast and stable. They were slow running for me as well.
So just be wary. I lost a lot of hair while I was with them (and one good weekend on the lake)

I haven’t used Mosso, but the concept of what they offer sounds good. Of course if they can’t deliver then doesn’t matter.
I wonder if it’s an issue of software, on top of software, on top of software, on top of software?
(Rack Space + Mosso + YOU + Your Client)
Well I was with them about 6months or a year ago. And part of the problem did seem to be software on top of software as well as they were doing cutting-edge stuff. Having ASP files running in the same folder as PHP is pretty cool.
It just didnt work out while I was there. I hope they get it together because it sounds GREAT.
Been with www.dreamhost.com for a few years now and it’s been great. Have my main websites on a dedicated server (not dreamhost) and the extra fun ones on shared dreamhost account. Everything you could possible need for a reasonable price. If you enter the promo code ’newviewmedia’ there’s $20 off of your first year of registration.
I had dreamhost for the past 6 months and they have more down time than uptime. only in the past 3 weeks my site (and 400 others who bitch on their server status page) was down 3 times for periods of 3-12 hours. that kinda suck when you run a biz site and not just a blog or playground.
they have lots of features for great price, and the shell is nice too if you want to master the rm command, but I guess I get what I paid for. I’m planing to move my 3 sites away from them as soon as I can get access to phpmyadmin again.
I think it boils down to shared hosting being a matter of luck. Each machine (server) has it’s own issues that can be affected by certain users abusing the system. The same goes for VPS servers, who are basically shared servers. This is why some users can he happy cats while others can be frustrated with the same hosting company.
I now use media temple and its great so far with modx, don’t use webfusion vps, it was always slow running modx and it kept going down.

I have heard of ASO and they seem to be on the ball.
I received notice that HostDime (with whom I host) that they are migrating all servers to PHP 5 and MySQL 5. The end of PHP 4 is near...

I wandered in here and realized a lot has changed since I posted last! Hostgator hasn’t performed as I had wished, Below10Host has also dropped the ball, I at one point was with MediaTemple during their gridhosting debacle when everyone was pissed at them (google mediatemple and you’ll find the horror stories) . . . now I’ve got a site with hostingzoom (okay, not great) and my reseller site at downtownhost.com who is absolutely fabulous. I’ve got a bunch of sites on downtownhost, some of them on ModX, and there is no problem whatsoever. They guys there are a sharp bunch, very customer centric, and extremely patient and accomodating. The couple minor problems I’ve had they’ve solved quickly and they are always quick to communicate. I’ve been with them over a year now.
