I am currently Joomla user with no experience in php code. I plan to start a blog website and had heard many good things about Modx. I plan to use Modx to setup a blogging platform that display some basic features like what available in Wordpress. I may expend it ability in future by adding social networking features but probably after one year.
Here are by selection:-
- Wordpress (hard to theme and limited flexibility)
- Drupal (bad theme, probably speed issue on shared hosting)
- Modx Evolution (good with a lot of extra addons, worry if need to redo and learn once upgraded to Revolution)
- Modx Revolution (good as I no need to learn again the template tags but not sure either basic blogging features is available or not)
Please advise, which CMS I shall use?
Thank you for your quick opinion, this forum helps a lot.

Drupal, however, is not a dedicated blogging application. Here’s a list and comparison of blogging apps

My own opinion is if you want a ready to eat theme with no intention of customizing it yourself, want built in commenting and just want to post stuff to the internet then WP is still the best choice.
BUT if you want a simple blog, want to easily create your custom templates in regular HTML + a few MODx tags and might intend to extend the features etc. of your site then MODx is likely a good choice. In addition Disqus (a thrd party Commenting app) has far better commenting than you could ever get from WP’s native commenting. There is Quip for Revo which is very nice and simple. But it is not ready to use and requires some config. Again that can be a plus if building your own custom views.
I personally think that 2/3 of the features in WP are extraneous but it is a simple way for people to get started in blogging. No hard feelings here for people who use WP for blogging.

In MODx you will need to build your own using Ditto, Jot, Reflect, Wayfinder and others...
the best will be to use Wordpress for a blog only job...

I’ve just begun looking into modx.
My first tasks will revolve around setting up a blogging system.
I’m aware that other cms’s apparently offer greater immediate ease.
However, I’m frustrated that no mature cms offers an easy way to deliver content as strict html.
I find this situation very unsatisfactory.
So, for the moment at least, I’m prepared to bite the pain that it might take to create a blogging system from modx that might be capable of creating a blog that can be delivered as strict html.
Strict is a cruel mistress. Transitional not so much.
