Friendly URLs

Need advice on setting up Friendly URLs .. have added a document alias to the page and have tried renaming to .htaccess and pasted in below from the forum but still getting no page found ..

Are you testing this on a local host such as MAMP, WAMP, XAMPP, etc?

Some of these may need enabling the rewrite module in apache...

The site is ’live’ and not on a local host .. it’s hosted at streamline.net ...

OK. Is that linux or windows hosting?

Have you checked to make sure the .htaccess file is in place?

What type of error are you getting? Page not found = 400 or Server error = 500?

OK,

We need to ascertain that the .htaccess file is being parsed. Do this:

1. Edit the .htaccess file and type some junk at the very top of the file. e.g. type in “kjljbmquxkleieleox” at the top of the file, then save it.

2. Try to visit any page on your site. You should get a server error if the .htaccess file is being parsed. If not, it is not being parsed and that may mean rewrite module is not enabled in apache

3. Edit the file to remove the junk typed in step 1.

ok, added the junk, uploaded the file to the root and tried visiting a page, get the same error .. page not found

Did you install modx in a subfolder? Try visit -url-/subfolder/index.php

No it’s in the root (htdocs)

It means the .htaccess file is not being parsed...you should have received a 500 server error.

I would check with the host if they allow .htaccess files and if apache has rewrite module enabled
