Revo 2.0.8. I have been following the official instructions for moving MODX to a different server (i am moving a website from XAMPP to a Virtual Server hosted by Demon) and on completion am given a white screen when i try to access the domain or the domain/manager. Any ideas would be fantastic - i have been banging my head against this for ages and it is really urgent. Couple of pointers:

    • used mysql to import database, all tables are present and populated
    • FURLS were turned off in MODX prior to the move, and .htaccess renamed to ht.acess
    • I appear to have R/W access to all folders
    • I am worried that my paths have been updated incorrectly in the config files. The server stores the files for the website in /usr/local/home/httpd/vhtdocs/<domain>/ (according to CoreFTP) or /www/vhtdocs/<domain> (document root according to the Virtual Server Control Panel). All my websites are stored in sub folders under the document root, the sub folders being the name of the domain e.g. mydomain.co.uk. In my config.inc.php file i have the following set:
      $modx_connectors_path= ’/www/vhtdocs/<domain>/connectors/’;
      $modx_connectors_url= ’/connectors/’;
      is this correct??

Please does anyone have any ideas/suggestions or anything that i can do to help debug where the server is falling over? I have used firebug and that just says 500 internal error message.

    Many thanks undecided

      currently having the same issue.

I’m on MODx Revolution 2.0.8-pl - want to update to 2.1.1, but wish to do it on a development server first.

Wondering if the context is what is messing me up? I’m using 5 total contexts. In the move, I have to use a different domain/directory. I’ve changed my config file locations /core/config/ and in each context directory. Also updated all the directory locations noted in the support documents and changed the workspace location in the database.

When I attempt to login, I’m seeing the title of the page, but nothing else. It seems there are files and/or tables in the database that are looking the wrong way, but I can’t find them.

Did you clear cookies, clear cache, and run setup?

Did you double-check your htaccess to make sure you have the correct domain, if any defaults have changed?

          Thanks for the questions.

I went back and cleared my cache in the manager, re exported my db, re imported to my new host and re copied all my files. Commented out my contexts on my htaccess file and left only the basic Friendly URL working.

          Fixed my /core/config/ file.
          Fixed DB’s modx_workspaces table.

Ran setup from my original download. Setup got to the final page and provided a white, empty page. The url indicated the setup was successful. ...but I have a white screen.

          Disabled htaccess.... white screen.

Tried to rerun setup, got to http://www.[mysite].com/setup/index.php?action=options and got a white screen...

I am on php 5.2.17 with suPHP as the handler. PDO is installed...

I’m at a loss. I am rewarded by whiteness for my hours of efforts.

          Damn.

Try these steps (do all of them in order, without testing in between):

            Log out of the Manager.
Manually delete all files in the core/cache directory.
Clear your browser cache *and* cookies.
            Run Setup (again).

Thanks, but that didn’t work either. I can’t even login to the manager. That also gives a white screen. When I attempted to rerun the setup, I get the white screen at the options setup, so I can’t choose new or existing install.

Also spent time with my hosting company to verify that the server logs are not reporting errors and to make sure my configs are exactly the same from one server to the next. Both are fine. Server log reports nothing.

I give up. Will install modx from scratch to see if I can get a successful install.

I’m suspicious that my main problem is contexts. As I said, I was running three separate domains and don’t have that in my new set up.

Contexts could well be the culprit, especially if you are routing things with the index.php file.

After trying the things above (manually deleting the files in the core/cache directory is crucial), the next step would be to check the paths in the following files:

                core/config/config.inc.php

                The config.core.php files:

There is a config.core.php file in each of the following directories:
                § MODX root directory
                § /manager/
                § /connectors/
                § /setup/includes/

It’s also possible that one or more files got corrupted in transfer or the permissions or ownership of some files and/or folders is not correct.

If you had an existing MODX install on the new site, it’s also possible that some files did not get overwritten.

BobRay - I appreciate your comments..

Update: I did get a successful install from my base 2.0.8 download, so my server is configured properly.

FWIW, I checked my index file and confirmed that I did not modify it in order to run my three domains. Here is the link to an excellent tutorial about setting up contexts. http://www.belafontecode.com/modx-revolution-hosting-multiple-domains/

I used the first - and best way - with htaccess directions. To confirm as well, all my files were checked for ownership and permissions problems and my root paths were properly modified. In thinking more about my problem, it seems that the white screen result with no server errors is an indication that the system is running properly, but has no idea where to find any files. What really blows my mind is that when I look at the source of my page, it is completely blank. ...can’t say I’ve ever seen that.

Regardless, I have a fresh install that works. ...so now I have to overwrite everything with my existing files and try again. This time, I will add subdomains as placeholders for my context sites.

One final thought... what about rerunning my xpdo file after I finish? Perhaps that is a step that could of righted the ship? ....I will continue to log my efforts. I’ve never seen a server switch that is so difficult. I wonder if the original poster ever tackled their issue?

I have, a number of times. Unfortunately, I can never remember what caused it. tongue

Sorry, I don’t know what you mean by that. What xpdo file?

By any chance is your error reporting off? I wonder if php is having trouble communicating with your DB. Are you able to see the php error logs on your server?
