It seems a bit broken, looks as though FURL’s aren’t turned on, works if you use id’s.
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!
I have a nearly virgin modx revo 2.0.7 installation.
With about 10 documents and only about a dozen chunks/snippets/templates, I wouldn’t expect modx to be in any kind of distress.
Yet, the situation is really bad. Especially on Firefox 3.6.13 (ubuntu 10.04) I’m developing a habit to bang my head on the desk in frustration every time the document tree starts "working".
In comparison the latest Google Chrome is much faster but still not fast enough to call the backend "reasonable slow".
I’ve cross checked over several installations and evo wins the race against revo each and every time (on the manager side).
I can’t believe this could be a server issue. And the computers I used to track down this problem are not what one would call underdeveloped...
I have a really bad feeling over this. This is a major downturner because it hits a spot where it hurts the most: Clients. They don’t give a d*** for all the revo eye candy if they get constantly annoyed by a slow manager backend.
Are there any new ideas how to solve this problem?

pepebe
Reading yesterdays post again I got the hunch that the overall mood of my lines was a bit over the edge. It was not me intention to sound like an ungrateful brat. Sorry for that. Must be the concussions. I have a sturdy desk...

My post was not meant to complain about a bug. This is what Jira is for. Reading the forum I got the idea that this is already a well know problem and 1600 views on this topic seem to proof this. Sure I read the announcement that 2.0.7 is dramatically faster due to some great performance improvements by Andchir (
http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,59837.0.html). But after trying 2.0.7 on three installation (two different hosting companies, one local install), I got the feeling that this far from being a thing of the past. My primary intentions was to find out if other people still have that particular problem.
@Bo Allen
Thanks for your offer. I’ll do some additional research on additional installations and collect more data. If I can reproduce this behaviour, I’ll post a formal bug and hand out some test accounts for external testing.

It may not be a bug, per se, but it is still really important to know as many details as possible about your environment in order to get to the bottom of what’s slowing down the Manager for some people and not others.
And just to update my previous post a few days ago...
I did a 2nd install on an older desktop (1.8GHz, XP Pro) and it was better, but still pretty slow...maybe around 20 sec per click. I then installed on my server I use for hosting production sites. Server is RHEL 5, 1.86GHz, 2GB RAM. It is MUCH faster, even on a remote machine....about 5-10 sec for any kind of operation, compared to 1 min for every click on my laptop. So it must be a config issue.
shaun, i’ll take your suggestion and post in the bug area with the info you suggested.
I have just fired up Revo on my work server, and too am having issues. The manager interface is very sluggish indeed, way slower than Evo on the very same server. It’s not unusable, but is enough to bother me.
Also the actual website itself is also slower than Evo. Browsing the site there it is perceptibly slower than the Evo install (not heaps, but it is slower).
Maybe a silly question, but does using the hosts file slow things down at all? I manually forcing a domain name to go to this server via the hosts file.
At the moment I’m still in the midst of converting, so haven’t read all the advice that seems to be around. Tried database caching and upping PHP memory limit, with no result. Tried Chrome in addition to Firefox too, not any better.
+1
Revolution is slow.
In my opinion it is not a bug. This is a general problem.
I can confirm that on 2 different hosts(clearhost and hostgator) the manager speed is ok. It is not comparable to Evo but usable. The speed is noticeable slower in Firefox compared to Chrome
I can also confirm that on my local server MAMP on iMac the manager is even faster.
The sites I tested with have less than 100 pages but have photo galleries custom snippets, at least 10 chunks and TVs.
