I note that the guide appears already out of date as the link: Tools | Configuration | Friendly URLs is now under: Systems|System Settings in Beta-3 I have installed.

    Not any more. wink

    Thanks for pointing that out.

There may be some miscommunication on one of your questions. Just to clarify: There are "migration" tools planned for moving sites from Evolution to Revolution. No "Translation" tools are planned, however, that would translate from one language to another.

I think the best way to assess which flavor of MODx you should start with is to look at the available add-ons for Revolution. If it looks like they will meet your needs, I’d go for Revo. I’m afraid the best way to see them now is to install Revo, go to System | Package Management, and click on "Download Extras."

Yes - my poor choice of words - I really meant ’migration’ not ’translation’.

Thanks for the advice - now I’m really confused smiley

That was my original thought - if I can migrate the work I have done so far, then I would be better to use the new code in the long term. However, if it is going to be a long wait for the release I may be forced to use Evo and then migrate it later - a bit of a pain if the code base, layout and terminology are very different. I have both installed on my development server but need to spend a bit more time getting familiar.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to add to the confusion. The current version of Revo is fairly robust even though it’s not a final release. Much of the remaining work is cosmetic (e.g. getting it to work with IE7 and ironing out some non-critical quirks in the Manager).

I wouldn’t recommend it for a site with multiple users and a complex permission structure or for a mission-critical or for an e-commerce site, but otherwise, if the right add-ons are there, it might work for you.

It’s hard to say how long it will be before mature migration tools are available and a very solid version of Revo will probably get here first, IMO.

          OK - thanks.
Multiple users and permissions are important to me, so it looks like I had better stick with Evo until migration tools become available.

I’m not sure about the status of permissions in Revo. I haven’t figured it out yet so I’ve been unable to do any testing. wink

Permissions are relatively simple in Evo (though less granular than in Revo).

The info here is strictly for Evolution: http://bobsguides.com/permissions.html

We just created a blog posting on instructions to migrate from evo to revo, or at least how we do it.

              https://www.revitalagency.com/blog/modx-evo-to-revo-site-content-migration-tutorial/

              Hope it helps.
