Splittingred, million thx for your suggestions .. Now i know where the logs are, I think both the mysql and php are not really dying .. Will keep poking around when I have time.
In the meantime, is there any way I can just ignore the package-mgt features in the GUI and apply templates and other plugins via the command line? I have some work I must have ready for Monday, so I would prefer to dive right into it rather than spend any more time on this problem .. for now.
Thanks again for all your help ..
Just for your info @carlzeto all I did was use PHP 5.3 and all worked for me from RC1. On wamp 2.0i
Do not know what your problem could be
Hope you get it sorted.

allanb, thanks for your post ..
I am on 2.0.1, and that is probably where the bug is from .. I will try 2.0.2 or 2.0.0 if I can find a link to download either of them ..
2.0.1 PL could well be your problem. It has been withdrawn.
I would try 2.0.0 PL if still available.
I usually give new releases a week before I try.
Still a bit new at this.

Thx for the insight .. I have alsonow verified that it seems the same bug is afflicting 2.0.2,which I downloaded and played with last night.
So, I would really appreciate a 2.0.0 download link .. or perhaps u could upload yours to googledocs (or similar) for me?
Anyway, I was forced to crash-learn silverstripe and I am applying it to my immediate time-stressed needs .. So, there is really no emergency anymore, so perhaps I should wait for this issue to go away ..
Thx.
